  • Regarding sources of calcium- I have chart that tells me Calcium is in tofu, green leafy veg, broccoli, swede, almonds, brazil nuts, figs and fortified mlks such as soya or rice milk. My dd quite likes rice milk-it tastes a bit like rice pudding. However I would be cautious about cutting out any food in young children without professional advice. Why not try cutting down first and see what happens.

Hi, Just wanted to add that I would be interested in your thoughts following your appt on Fri. How old is your child?

Mine (age 4) as glue ear and I have just got Otovent to see if this helps. It needs to be used twice a day every day for a while so we are starting this weekend to make it part of routine. My next thoughts were trying homeopathy but if you have good results I may try cranial osteopathy.

My daughter does not have ear infections just a blocked (glue) ear.

My sis was told 6 months ago that her eldest son (7) would need gromits - my sis wasn't keen and took him to a cranial osteopath and cut out cows milk from his diet - both of her kids now have goats milk instead. The difference in him is dramatic. The glue ear has cleared up.
An additional interesting fact is that his little bro was always really snotty, this cleaed up too. However they were away for a weekend and both kids had cows milk for 3 days - the little bro was back to bucketing snot when they got home.
    Makes you think :)

Ok so we went on friday, he basically said she would need about 6 treatments. He's going to help to open up her airways as she is v.petite, which in turn should help with drainage of the ears. Its all very hands-on stuff, but more so very slight movements on the head & chest area.
    Fingers crossed, will update :)

  • While I wish you well and hope things improve, in post 2 I pointed out that I haven't been able to find any research showing that crancial osteopathy is likely to help.
I will be pleased if I am proved wrong but I do feel you would be well advised to follow the guidance in the information and links provided in that post. None will adversely affect impact of the cranial oestopathy but will improve your chances of seeing some improvement.

  • Point taken regarding lack of quality, controlled research. Unfortunately many "alternative" therapies have not had the resources to conduct the necessary trials. This neither proves or disproves the case for cranial osteopathy.

Thanks for the update. Would be most grateful if you would continue to post with progress.

My daughter's glue ear has improved since using the Otovent each day for last couple of weeks which is good news so whilst her hearing in on ear is still not 100% it is much much better. Just hope we can keep it that way.

So the day after the treatment she said her ear was hurting a little bit, but it was ok by bedtime. She's not shouting as much......the first session was 1hr & the 2nd was only 30mins, so isn't saying 'what' or 'i can't hear you' as much. The main test i think will be another hearing test at the end of the sessions. I don't think there's any harm with having medicine & doing this at the same time. These guys work on a donation system, so its not as if you have to be able to afford it, you give what you can really, so far so good.
Pls bare with me as we are in the middle of a broadband swap, so don't have much access!
