Cheapest Internet

I'm trying to find a basic Internet package for my girlfriends parents.

They will be very light users, probably a couple of times a week, and will do little if any downloading of files.

Does anyone know of a very basic package that would be suitable.

PlusNet value is the best I've found so far at £12.99 (after initial 3 months).

Could they get away with a "free" dial-up connection? There are a few operators offering this via an 0844 number.

What exchange? Broadband is exchange specific.
Do an exchange search on https://www.samknows.com and look for the available LLU options.
However if Plusnet is £12.99 the you're probably on a non-LLU exchange.
Is there already a working BT line at the property though?

I don't think they'd want to use dial-up, however it is an option.

There are no LLU providers at the exchange, and yes there is a working BT line at the property.

Where are you from? UK? The cheapest Internet package is around £10 in the UK.

Where do you get that figure from?
In some areas its £15+, in others it's as low as £5.

  • O2 do it very cheap if your an existing customer and now that im taking a second years internet, they offered me O2 home phone anytime calls/line rental and FREE broadband /12months @ £12.50 per month.

Massive saving for my house as we were paying £40 to bt just for evening/weekend calls and line rental.

I chose O2 last year because of a topcashback £75 cashback deal, which ment i ended up paying £1.30/month for broadband (but you need a bt line for that)

But its definately worth checking topcashback for the up to date deal.

I thought I was doing well on £17.50. Very good deal-did they switch you to the new capped 'Basics' tariff on the broadband though-I assume you were originally on the old standard (unlimited) tariff?

  • No, i'll be getting the all rounder package. So unlimited and in my area i can get up to 12mb speed. I must say O2 bb last year was flawless. Very rarely had the tea time drop in connection/speed.

The deal i got wasnt offered when i first canceled. Only when i rang back to ask something. So for those of you who already have O2 BB and are coming up to the end of your contracts, make sure you ask when you ring rententions to cancel. Cause you'll be able to move seamlessly over to the new contract without disruption. Im having to wait weeeeeeeeeks, 17th dec to be precise. But still cheapest out there with the calls included.
