Currys Online

Hi Everyone,
I'm having a problem with Curry's online.
Long Story short:
- Ordered a dishwasher with installation option for an additional £15
- Dishwasher delivered, but not installed due to it being connected still to electrical supply (bearing in mind this just required unplugging and an extension cable being put in which I had to hand)
- I was told by delivery driver to organise someone to come out again once this had been done.
- Organised for them to come a week later, confirmation received.
- No one turned up on the Saturday, and after 8 phone calls was told they would come the next day. Still no one called.
- Called on Monday and was told that they can't install it as electrics needed to be disconnected in the first place. I therefore asked for a full refund.
- I was told this was being processed, and I would get a call later that day (which is now 5 days ago) to organise collection.
- No call back, I've emailed 3 times (as I want confirmation in writing as they obviously don't store any info when you speak to them on the phone) - but i've had no reply apart from one automated reply
- I still have the dishwasher sat in my kitchen in it's packaging without my refund.
Firstly - I can't believe how pathetic they are being for the sake of the fact the dishwasher wasn't unplugged. This took the best part of 5 seconds, and another minute to find and plug in an extension cable.
Secondly, now I seem to be ignored with regards to the refund, and I'm quite worried I'm going to get stuck with this thing without getting my money back.
I feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall, so would REALLy appreciate some advice on what the next step would be?
Thanks in advance

I would personally go down there and speak to the manger on shift and give him the what for and demand a full refund and sort out collection. If you've already tried that, you may need to deal direct with Headoffice...0

If you paid for installation, the installers should disconnect the old one as well. The only time they wouldn't is if, for example, the old one was hardwired in (not the case here), or if it was dangerous to do so (and they would have said so).
I cannot think of any reason other than idiot drivers that you would have been told you needed to unplug your machine. From the website:
Here's what we'll do:
Check that existing electrical and plumbing connections are safe and appropriate to be used for the new appliance
Disconnect the existing appliance
Unbox and check the new product
Remove transit bolts
Connect to existing plumbing and electrical sockets plus level the appliance
Test the appliance to make sure there are no leaks
Clear away all packaging and take away old appliance if required
Ensure you are happy with the installation
What we don’t do
Plumb two waste pipes into one
Make any alterations to existing plumbing or electrical connections. We can only install to existing connectionsSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Maybe they class an extension lead as an alteration!Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
I did think about going to a store, but I figured that their high street shops would be so detached from their online arm (Sorry Sir, you will have to speak to customer services, nothing we can do here) that it wouldn't be worth it. I'll give it a go, thanks Blue_Diamond.
I think the issue was that the extension cable wasn't actually there when they turned up, so they could use that as an excuse.
What was more frustrating is that I arranged another date for the install, got confirmation for it, spent the whole weekend waiting for them and them not turning up all.
I will let you know how it goes when I visit a store today - thanks for your comments everyone0 -
I think (even though widely available) there may be a problem with ext leads being used....hence the reason appliances only come with a certain length of flex attached already....what the manufacturer believes is a "safe" length.
Secondly...does their "installation" service cover the decommissioning/uninstall of an appliance already there in place and it's removal?
Normally though surely they should have slid the packing off to make sure there were no dinges or dents in the applaiance....that could cause problems if you report any damage a week after delivery.I'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j

Interesting...
I went into Currys on Saturday, calmly explained my situation and left it at that without expecting too much.
Yesterday I got a call at about 10 AM from a 'tech guys' delivery/installation guy saying he was going to be at mine in 10 minutes and asked if I would be in.
I asked him if he was coming to pick it up, to which he said "No! I'm coming to install it!"
Taken aback (as I didn't receive ANY notification or warning), I rushed home to meet them, and lo and behold they came in and installed the dishwasher, and removed the old one. No questions asked.
They explained that they were sent from the local Curry's store (Poole), rather than being allocated from Head Office (and coming from the Southampton Depot) as the issue I was having had been escalated internally. Very helpful chaps indeed.
I guess there are a few lessons here, but I certainly will think twice about buying from large retailers online. If it means paying more for less of a headache, then so be it. Even going into the store is a better option it seems.
Cheers everyone - have a great Christmas :beer:0 -
Curry's delivery is pathetic to put it midly! I got a washing machine from them and took up the disposal of the old unit offer. But when they came "oh that's not on my list, can't take it". "You'll have to call Currys and they'll arrange to have it picked up"
Of course when I contact Currys "No we won't pick it up". Ended up going down the store to play merry war with the manager who still refused to send someone out to pick it up but instead refunded our £20 delivery charge and I got it taken away by the council for £10 so I was in profit, but only after a lot of hassle!
I don't bother paying for installation of washing machines etc, as the OP has found they nearly always come up with a reason why they can't do it. Easier just to do it yourself.0 -
WORD OF WARNING:
just remember that washing machines usually come with transit straps or packing bars to stop the drum rattling round...these bolts/straps/bars/packing items MUST be removed before use...or you kill your machine...lol...and are not covered under warranty.
All this is explained in the instructions...so read first...it's not just as simple as connecting the hoses, waste pipe and plugging in ...I'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j
Those who can do, those who can't, come to me for lessons:cool:0 -
True, but they are usually easy to remove. After that is *is* just a matter of connecting the pipes and plugging it in.0
