Got the TV, now need some sound advice

Hi all,

This isn't me actually it's a family member, who has a sky HD box and a TV with freeview, and freesat comes from somewhere too. Now we want some decent sound and surround sound capability

The TV BTW is a Panasonic plasma 37" Viera & BBC i player compatible. Don't know the exact model but it's a recent purchase so probably not too difficult for you to know which one it is

What do we need and which would you recommend?

And once we have it what connects to it? i.e. does the sky box the TV and the dvd player all have to connect to the sound box? That's a lot of connections.

Thanks
