tax credit exemption

i get child tax credit income support and child benefit, need dental treatment next month, and i rung up for a REPLACEMENT exemption card and the woman on the phone told me i'm not entitled to one! I had one before and it sad in the dentist that i'm entitled to free treatment f i get income support. I'm really upset as there s no way can afford the treatment, (and i need a lot of treatment) I had a card before so i don't understand.
I've also been ticking the box on the back of the prescripton that says i'm named on a valid tax credit exemption certificate as i was under the impression i was. Do need to tick the income support box instead?:(

To see if you're entitled on the basis of Tax Credits you can use the Tax Credit Flowchart - Help with health costs here:
    http://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/1650.aspx

But as you are receiving Income Support you can get free prescriptions, dental treatment etc... on that basis:
    http://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/HealthCosts/1976.aspx

    Income Support

You and your partner get free:
    • NHS prescriptions
    • NHS dental treatment
    • NHS sight tests
    • NHS wigs and fabric supports
You and you partner also get:
    • a voucher towards the cost of glasses or contact lenses
    • refunds of necessary travel costs to receive NHS treatment.

If you receive IS then you will be entitled to one.

You need to phone back and ask why you are not entitled.
  • I know i'm entitled as that's all the money i get and i was ringing up for a replacement card i'm upset and i'm worried i will get into trouble for ticking the wrong box
  • She said i'm not entitled to an exemption card because i get income support and i need to be working and earning less than 15 thousand a year to be entitled to a tax credits exemption card???

you dont need a card. just take your latest benefit letter with you.
if you don't have a letter just phone the DWP and ask for a statement of entitlement.
it's just a letter setting out which benefits you receive.

I don't think you will be in trouble for ticking the wrong box cos at the end of the day you are exempt it's just that you are not exempt by the means of tax credits, it's your income support that qualifies you.

If you get income support you wont get your exemption certificate through tax credits you would get it issued through income support so you need to ring them not tax credits.

You are not entitled to one if you claim IS, ask the OP will get free treatment when she ticks the boxes on a prescription/dental treatment.
    *SIGH*
    :D
  • The dentists at the consultation said i need my card when i come back for my treatment (i told them had a card cos i thought i did and thought i could order a replacement one) So if i just take a letter saying i get income support will that be sufficient enough? I would ring the dentists but i just tried and it said they were closed for some reason?
