Yes you can get amoxicillin liquid, it's the kids version though so adults usually need a few bottles to do the course and then there's the complication of it needing to be kept in a fridge which isn't convenient if you work and take it through the day.

Glad to hear the problem is sorted now OP, please don't be tempted to open the capsule and just take the powder, the capsule protects the contents from stomach acid, if you just pour the powder down your throat it wont do as well as if you'd taken them properly.

    Thank you all so much.

The report and the thought of having to go back to my docs to ask for liquid was too embarrassing, i just went and had another go and just swallowed it without thinking and it went down...phew...im still shaking a bit!

Im such an idiot but thank you all such much for the advice :jx

Well done you! Now you know you can do it, you need to perservere, mind over matter, and try to control your worries about this. Will make life easier for you in future if you can overcome your anxiety about it!

I have heard that taking tablets with a fizzy drink helps some people get them down. I have never had a problem taking tablets though, so I haven't tried it.
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!

I used to encourage my stepson to take large tablets with a Snicker bar. He is disabled and this helped as he could chew and the peanuts mixed with the tablets.
:hello: Don't believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want:hello:

  • Well I have had two days worth now. I've only really had problems with the last one today as I just couldn't get it down. It's really annoying as I know I can take them, but i just work my self up so much i can't swallow! Only 5 more days so hopefully I will get better by the end of it :p

And i have been using milk which i'm finding a bit easier!

Thanks for the other suggestions everyone :T

Know it may seem a bit odd, but my cat used to not take pills without some real effort. To combat this we tried everything, hiding in his food he'd simply miss out the food we had hidden it in. Holding him with a towel for 5 minutes after forcing it to the back of his throat would result in him storing it at the back of his throat and we'd find it spat out somewhere randomly in the kitchen...

What did work was covering it in butter. This he seemed to like or it made it impossible to throw up again. Either which I think it must have been easier for him to swallow. Maybe something to try?

Also, sucking on a boiled sweet or chewing gum straight afterwards can make your body product saliva which can help the pill go down a bit better.

But if it were me, I'd swallow my pride and go to get the liquid form- even if I had to take/pay for more. You wouldn't be the first to have pill swallowing issues and undoubtedly wont be the last.

    think about something else.

swallow with juice or liquid yog drink.

ask for smaller size next time (but you'll have to swallow twice as many!)

I used to have terrible trouble swallowing any tablet's, it get's easier. This probably sounds odd but the technique works for me so may be worth a try, I don't put the tablet on my tongue I put it underneath then quickly take a big drink & flick the tablet to the back of my mouth with my tongue along with the drink, and swallow. Hope you feel better soon.
