    Hi I have a Samsung N140.
    I have Avast as antivirus.
I don't have any home groups.
The only thing is I wonder if I gor a virus whenI was accessing free wi-fi from a shopping centre? No idea what it is though ....
I have 1 GB of memory

Hi again, yeah I noticed Avast on post 1 (slow reader I know) ok, now my OH has a N140 + Avast shall we wait for some to sort it for you :D.
OK can you use IE Ok ?
What is your normal Home page on Firefox(I assume that's what you meant by Mozilla)
I feel it may be a memory (physical problem but I am still researching)
I have the Mrs DCM netbook beside me so I can check a few things as needed.
I assume you have automatic updates turned on the Sammy, and that avast tells you in an annoying voice that your antivirus is updated

  • Expect you watched Mr McIntyre then like me :D OK try the Memory test , Windows key or start and type memory . you will get a list including Windows Memory Diagnostic, start that and it will ask you to either restart now or schedule for next restart. Mrs DCM's ran for 28 minutes 2 giga memory , when it restarts a little box pops up and says 0 errors(in her case) in yours who knows it may be worth trying.
It may be a phyical memory problem , I can't really think it's Firefox hers is 3.6.10 and her home page is Google, and there is no problem with Yahoo either. You said that you uninstalled Firefox, did you download again or use the same download as before....I don't think FF is a problem unless you have some esoteric add-ons, she has noscripts and reloadevery and cooliris.
Have you recently added any new hardware (ie usb stuff cameras/external disks/printers etc?) Also have you got a SD card in the front slot, or a USB mouse anything new?

Jeez Don't I go on..... trying to pin point the problem.

  • Hello, sorry about the Bold text below can't get it off,
Did you download Firefox afresh or re-install from the last download you had ?

And have you tried the memory test I suggested earlier ?

    Try
    Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Run the program then Click on the Update Tab and check for updates, to get the latest version , then select the scan tab and run a quick scan, let it fix what it finds , post the log here(Even if nothing is found)
