We've stayed out of debt - nearly our 1yr anniversary of being DF :j The last time I was in this situation I was a kid living at home!

We saved up the cash to buy DH a car, so we paid in cash in full, using money we were previously spending on debt repayments. We got a car we could afford rather than a dearer one with a loan.

We've got a savings account for big bills for next year which we've been saving into each month - to cover car tax etc. This means we get the benefit of the cheaper rates for paying in full. $

(I do technically have an interest free loan for a course I am doing. This way I can save the fees during the course and pay it off at the end :) If there was a problem I could clear the loan now, so I'm hoping I still count as DF :o)
Debt at highest: £8k. Debt Free 31/12/2009. Original MFD May 2036, MF Dec 2018.
  • Ive not been an active member for long, and im only just starting out on my debt free journey so haven't really achieved much as of yet, But i am now looking at ways to make more money to pay my debts off, I have been inspired to actually do something about my debt rather than just plod along wishing that i could win the lottery or something and they would just disappear!!

Ive been living at the bottom end of my overdraft now for almost a year, and its only really been the last month since taking part in the make £10 a day challenge that ive realised i can get out of my overdraft, and i plan to have the overdraft cleared by May 2011 (my B day) and then start working on clearing my personal loan.

So my biggest achievement would simple be realising that I CAN get myself out of debt and actually doing something about it!

This year I finally learned how to save, budget and not use my credit cards. Concentrated more on saving than paying off debts (although a bit of both), got £3000 in the bank now and paid £1.5k off the credit cards. Now if I genuinely need something I use the money from savings rather than the cc's

I have got rid of my vile and expensive overdraft and switched my current account to a non-packaged. I have also bought my Xmas pressies with cash and made lots of them as well. Also broken my coffee shop habit.

Feeling really positive and love this site. It's been a lifeline.

    Congratulations to everyone x

Seems quite minor compared to most posters but simply having my LBM was my biggest achievement!

I caught myself in time that I could still afford to pay more than the minimum payments (not by much! But better than nothing!).

I need to sort out my current balances but i think I've paid off about £4k since February- pretty big for me considering every other year I'd probably have increased my debt by about 50% of that!

Onwards and *downwards* (borrowing-wise!) for 2011!

The light bulb moment is a singular moment, it's in no way minor ...
If you think of it as 'us' verses 'them', then it's probably your side that are the villains.
