Is there any powder on the market that incorporates the rinse aid & salt? As tablets are just squished powder, it should be possible, shouldn't it? However, I suppose the manufacturers sell tablets mainly on their convenience factor so wouldn't rush to bring this out.

    I've had a few!

The most memorable of which is something that I've heard of a few people doing.................

Not long after moving out of my parents house I was making Sunday dinner, went to roast the tatties, put the oil in the pyrex, put it in the oven (before I ever had a fan oven)and it was taking ages to heat as the whole cooker was on it's last legs, took out the oil to put the spuds in, turned on the ceramic hob to help the oil on it's way to heating up, turned around to get something, lucky I did because the bl00dy dish EXPLODED, flinging boiling oil, and glass everywhere......................

Why oh why do we make these assumptions? Pyrex is ovenproof, so by my reckoning heat proof............ not direct heat proof that's for bloomin sure!

But enough of mine Jeni's are funnier.............

A girl I was in school with years ago was a !!!!!!!g liability in the kitchen, she cooked a chicken still cling wrapped straight into the oven,( her parents left her at home for the weekend she must have been 15/16 at the time and she was trying to cook a romantic meal for her boyfriend when she had the house to herself!) after that disaster the next time she cooked chicken, she took it out of the plastic but left the plastic bag with gibs still inside................

however the worst thing our Jen did was trying to cook oven chips for the 1st time.

I wouldn't have believed this if I hadn't seen this with my own eyes!

She laid the chips out on a tray in rows, (and me being a bad bint wanting to see what the method to this madness was and always keen to have more ammunition against the poor ditsy blonde kept quiet) she put them on to cook after 5 mins took them out and I couldn't believe it, she was turning them, one by one, by a quarter turn, she wanted to make sure they were cooked evenly because each side needed to be cooked evenly bless her.
We ended up having the chips with fried egg and condensed milk rolls for tea that night,(far nicer than you would imagine, I promise)it was one of the funniest days of my life

Scarily enough, last I heard of her, (probably about 5 years ago,)she was studying medicine.......................

    God help us all!

Oh just remembered the muffins when i forgot to add sugar. Eww

Tried to save them by making chocolate icing but the lo's just licked the icing off.
That's just reminded me of when DS decided to make doughnuts. He didn't read the instructions properly and the dough looked very well, doughy when it came out of the breadmaker. Anyhow he went ahead and cooked them in the fryer. Took a huge mouthfull of the first one out and it ended on the other side of the kitchen. He had put in 1 cup of salt not sugar ! I think it put him off doughnuts for the rest of his life. he was about 12 at the time.

My most recent (ie this afternoon!) OS disaster involved the delicious, meaty, smoked ham shank I bought from the butchers for a pittance last week. I didn't have time to make my soup last week so I froze it ... I took it out to defrost this afternoon, and meantime I popped out to the greengrocer. I returned 15 minutes later to discover an extremely sheepish dog trying to hide what remained of the bone under her bed ...

Cookery disasters are few and far between because I follow the instructions of all you hardcore domestic idols to the letter ... !
  • My DH went on a course overnight and kept telling to make sure I turned every thing off before I went to bed as he has a thing (a good thing) about appliances on standby - I duly went round and turned everything off

Got up in the morning went to work cam back to DH in ''not a happy bunny'' mode - I had turned the frezzer and the fridge off with obvious consequences

There are so very, very many!

Perhaps the most embarassing was when I once tried to impress a meat eating OS friend with my favorite and usually bullet proof veggie recipe. I managed to totally mess it up. Poor dear managed a whole mouthful before just about throwing up... :o:o
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

I tried to make peach cobbler on Monday and it looked ok. But after putting it into bowls, it just resembled a floury stodgey mess. I followed the recipe from this site and it was so simple but I must have done something wrong!

That recipe is always a bit touch-&-go. It depends on things like how much liquid went in with the fruit. On the other hand, I always find the stodgy mess tastes pretty good, & the rest of the crew like it. Just cover with lots of custard & enjoy!
  • LOL - Cover it in custard and enjoy seams to be a mainstay of cooking advice round here!

I made a stew once, and forgot to put any liquid in. Determined not to waste it i was sure it wouldnt taste as bad as it looked (baring in mind it came out in one big lump:o). It looked and tasted like burnt nuts.:D
