I found that one out too :) salty scones, yum.

    DH still ate them tho

My cakes weren't salty, they just had the nastiest taste imaginable - not even palatable with lots of jam.

    They looked fab though :p

:rotfl: This thread has had me laughing my head off!
It reminded me of the time many years ago when I was making toast on an eye level grill. The cooker was really past its best.... a ..bit dodgy. It set the fake 70s wood panelling on fire and I had to throw water at the wall.....mmmm soggy toast! I also tried to make a sausage casserole with frozen sausages once and frozen veg and no gravy..I hadnt been cooking for long and 3 hours later realized it wasnt going to be one of my better ideas:o . The first christmas turkey I cooked was lovely and included a plastic bag of giblets!
I have also sewn things to myself whilst mending them....among many other mishaps!
The salty scones reminds me of the time as a kid I made some salt dough models..being the crafty type! Our dog decided to eat them off the work top and needless to say had a bit of a thirst!! I also had a dog who ate 2 lb of carrots and a couple of beetroots.....her wee was an interesting colour for a few days!:rotfl:

bertiebots - the sewing things to yourself always reminds me of my Mum, she always tells me many the time she sewed things to herself (skin included) then had to unpick the lot, LOL!
  • I still feel guilty, having bragged about my best-chocolate-cake-in-the world-ever - a friend asked for the recipe to impress her new bf when he was invited for dinner at her parents' house. Generously I told her how to make it - from memory, completely forgetting the butter. She made the fabulous fat-free cake, but no-one was very impressed.

One recipe that I always struggle with (and everybody else finds really simple) is Leek and Potato Soup. Have tried various recipes to get it right.

My first attempt I tried with some potatoes and 1 leek - yuk! - tasted like the sloppy powdered mash that my m-i-l used to make in the 70's!!

But the very worst one called for a clove of garlic. It was absolutely disgusting! OH bravely ate a full bowl and declared it delicious - but I've noticed that he has declined the offer to open the other batch that is still lurking at the bottom of the freezer :(.

So many disasters over the years but here are a few of mine.

    1. As a newly wed, I boiled my first ever batch of home made marmalade for 3 hours, desperately waiting for setting point to be reached. Ended up with 30 lbs of liquid conserve which took about 4 years to dispose of and ended up having to tip most of it down the loo.

    2. Borrowed husband's new car to pop out down a country lane with a bucket to collect a nice pile of horse dollops just dropped by a few passing horses from a riding school. Placed bucket of hot steaming manure on back seat and then took a bend home a little too quickly. Upholstery completely ruined. Have you ever tried to remove several pounds of fresh horse !!!!!! from cloth?? (Nearly had divorce over that one !)

    3. Put half a pound of chestnuts in microwave to roast without splitting the skins first. Resulting explosion nearly wrecked the kitchen.

    4. Years ago bought some cheap purple knickers from somebody at work who was selling them out of the Ladies Cloakroom. It was a hot day, the dye leached and when I undressed that night my lower torso was stained bright purple. I scrubbed and scrubbed but couldn't remove it and had to go to the Family Planning Clinic next day for a smear test. The look on the doctor's face was an absolute picture !

And finally a goof from my dear old mother, who always hated being under the hairdryer when she had her hair done so I encouraged her to have it cut short and have it blow dried instead. When I went to pick her up from the salon, I found the staff in hysterics. She'd apparently told them "My daughter told me I should have one of these blow jobs, so I think I'll give it a try". She was 91 and the hairdresser was a young chap :rotfl:

Mine was not a cooking disaster, but don't let anyone shake the bottle of tomato sauce if the lid is not screwed on.............OH shook the bottle, by twisting his wrist, the first twist threw sauce right up my DS2, the downward shake all over the table and then last one, right up a newly papered wall in the dining room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm friends over for the weekend; though I would do olive bread in the BM to go with the lasagne. Had never used the timer before (so it would be hot when we can back from our walk!) was so busy with that and explaining to our guests how easy it was that I forgot to put the water in!
