    Just answer me this question.

You see an item which is priced at £100 , and after a little looking about you see the same item on another site for £96.
Which one do you buy? (Honestly)

You see an item you really want on some site you've never heard of, your friends have never heard of, and no one on MSE has ever heard of it, that has no history, very small userbase, and has only been online for 6 months, and you see the same item on ebay for a few £ more.

    Which one do you buy?

Are you going to pay 3rd Parties commission on sales on your site. I do not like the fact when I buy on-line there may be a hidden party involved in the transaction.

    The Seller
    The Buyer
    The Site
Another party that is getting commission and information on the sale from a tracking cookie hidden on my PC.

Exactly right. Common sense tells you to go for the lower priced one.

There is a huge difference between cost and value though...

For example, I see products in the UK for £100, and the same product from Hong Kong at £90 - I'd pay the UK price.

Or looking at it from the sellers perspective - who wins in a race to the bottom? I could bore you for hours with analysis of the recent commercial vehicle rental pricing strategy that has gripped the industry for the last two years, resulting in 3 of the largest players in the market all closing or going into administration this month.

I was once fortunate enough to enjoy some time in the company of a guy called Jack Welch. If you do not know who he is, then google him - "captain of industry" does not even come close!
Something he said to us that has stuck in my mind ever since - "If you take away any pricing competitiveness from your product, would you still have a product worth offering?"

Look beyond the pricing - for buyers and sellers, and offer something unique and effective that will make both people want to be on your site.

  • Rogue sellers.

Ah i see. Well these types of people would have the account suspended. I realise that you will never stop them no matter how big you are.All we can do is to try and stop it as best we can.
With the support of our users they will direct us to the scammers. We might impliment test buys ourselves. Like a mystery shopper type thing.

Well thats up to the buyer. But how do you think other places started out? Exactly the same. Ebays 1st sale was a broken printer. And it did not have many members at the time.

No. I am not going to sell or collect data. That in my mind is a breach of trust.

It all sounds a bit simplistic. You should really ask yourself if you know what you're doing before you spend any money on this.

But even i would not buy from Hong Kong.
Im on about UK prices and sales.
With any product there has to be a bottom line. i will be 1005 honest and say as long as the website makes enough to cover the basic costs then that is all i care about. Im not really fussed if it does not make and profit for myself. If i was then i would have charged the seller for listings, photos,FVF etc etc. But i am taking the chance and trying something differnet.
I dont want to be like all the other E-bids, Cqout sites.. i want to be different and offer a different way of buying.
Every new business has to start somewhere, you do not get overnight sucess i am not that silly to think that. As i said i am willing to give it 5 years or so as this is a realistic timescale. You only need a few hundred people that have a good buying or selling experience and word of mouth will follow.
Gimme time to prove myself 1st.. Nice comment by that bloke though.. reminds me of chinese proverbs.

Is it related to your betting DVD that you are breaking eBay policy with (regarding multiple identical item listings)? Plus without being registered as a business, though obviously producing it to sell on?

I hope your site will be better regulated, laid out and legally compliant than your listings.

does this site even exist? or is this just someone whose bored and wanted something to do on a snow day or are you a student doing a project for a business degree or alike?

Sorry but I would not pay to buy an item.

If i was not 100% confident in my ability on doing this then i would not have even thought of starting it.
i have looked at lots of other auction sites and sen how they operate. i have looked into lots of other things as well. This is not a flash in the pan thing.
