Laying: the last time someone tried to charge me £2 to register on a buying site, I hit the back button and never went back.
You may get a few people paying, but I doubt it's going to make a huge impact on any existing marketplace out there which doesn't charge the buyer up front.
If you think you can make this work, go ahead and try it out. No-one's stopping you. But I don't see you getting a huge amount of support here."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

It's the psychological issue involved. It's like the problem I have with VAT. It inflates prices, decreases merchant takings, and acts in the same way income tax would anyway. As a tax on consumption rather than earnings, it actively discourages people from shopping, rather than encouraging people to buy something and then taking a proportion of the income at source.
I know VAT is a necessary evil in terms of raising government revenue, but if you directly "tax" the buyer, the psychological impact will be a business failure. Amazon and Play didn't build up their businesses by discouraging consumption, and you are competing with people who don't charge their buyers entrance fees, so people will just move on to a site that doesn't appear to charge them to buy.
The e-commerce market is becoming saturated - you either need to go with what the successful models do or die.
I beg to differ.
people are charged a fee when the buy from REAL auctions. The seller & the buyer both have a fee to pay. It is so easy for a scammer to bid on your item and then Not pay. This messes you the seller about. But would they still do it if they know they will have to pay a fee? I think not. Why would they?
I dont want to have a site like all the others where they charge the seller. I want to encourage sellers to list on my site. But by listing on my site they can list items for less. This would then interest buyers as it is cheaper than it is on Ebay etc. You cannot tell me that its going to break the deal because a buyer has to pay £1 or £2 in order to get the item cheaper? No.. im sorry but if you were saving £10 on an item you would pay the fee, because you are saving money are you not?
The main point of the site is to save money for both the seller and the buyer.:D0 -

Im not trying to charge people to register. You ONLY pay if you actually buy something. There is no charge to browse.
I honestly think that you are missing the point here..
lets say you sell an item on ebay for £100. Out of this £100 you pay your fees.
You end up with £88.22 then you will have paypal fees.
On my site you can list if for £90.00
If you sell it you have no fees and you have made more than you would on Ebay. Also please dont forget that because it is cheaper on my site more people will watch it or bid on it.This generates traffic.
Also every auction that is listed uses SEO in order to get noticed. So the more Auction the more well known it becomes.
Sometimes you have to think outside the box to find something that works. I have alot of faith in my site and it is still very new.0 -
What is the USP to attract buyers, and how will your marketing strategy around this be implemented?
As you quite rightly recognise, it is relatively easy to attract a seller base around cost per sale, but without regular transactions it is all pretty futile - eBid and CQOut are testimony to this.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -

Ok,
At the moment i am trying to get a list together so i can have a few businesses in each section on the board.
Ebay have Free listing days as everyone knows. But i will have Free buying days. This will mean that any sales made on the day will not be charged.
Also as i have said we will offer new buyers a money off voucher so the first £10 in fees is free. Might be more but this is undecided yet.
We have already discussed this and decided it is best to offer thsis FREE money off voucher as a way for people to test it.It does not cost them anything then.
We will need people to test it out but this will come later.
Ebid & CQout are similar to Ebay and this is why they dont work. Trying to copy Ebay will not work.I have witnessed lots of sites start and go who copy Ebay. There are also alot of sites out there that are live but not used.
yes Ebay works because its been about since 1995. But as with every business they have flaws. This is what i have talked about with Powersellers and is my reason for doing this the way i do.0 -
Forget it. Any day is free buying day for me online or most other shops."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Paying won't stop scammers.A woman is like a tea bag- you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water.

Well i think it will stop far more than on Feebay. Feedback is the key really. If less than 10 you would want to phone them or be weary of them. My feedback procedure is very good.I can and will alter feedback if there is a dispute. In my opinion there is no need to be nasty in your response on feedback. But you want to be honest. You can leave 1-5 ticks and then a comment.Girlpantsx wrote: »Paying won't stop scammers.
So i would advise as with any purchase to read the feedback 1st.0 -
All things being equal, the one for £96. Online though, not all things are equal.laying4profit wrote: »Just answer me this question.
You see an item which is priced at £100 , and after a little looking about you see the same item on another site for £96.
Which one do you buy? (Honestly)I'm not bad at golf, I just get better value for money when I take more shots!0
