I've never heard of a corner fridge.

I remember knowing somebody once who looked at juice dispensers and decided they might harbour germs. I wonder if it'd be better to have a dedicated ice maker and separate fridge.... you don't make ice all the time and it'd take up a lot of fridge space.

I'm going to google corner fridges now. You wealthy people live in strange worlds with your corner fridges and amethyst baths :)

Edit: Blimey, there's a whole company that does them.... http://www.cornerfridge.com/ - I think my last flat was smaller than that :)

Great idea for a spooky corner though (as per my previous fear).

    Found this one: http://www.paintandtimber.com/images/corner_fridge.jpg
The space'd make a great larder cupboard for one.

I immediately had the same thought as Lydia re unused triangles.

I am thinking of running units down one wall and then having an Island parallel and thus no corners - I was thinking of putting the hob on the island to allow a bit of 'theatre cooking' - but I would probably also want some worktop and the sink facing the room too which might be more than an Island can manage - others have suggested a similar layout but with the island forming part of a 'U' but that gives 2 corners...

    This one would do! http://www.utopiamag.co.uk/concept-kitchen-modulnova

The island would be kitchen on one side with a step up to a breakfast bar stool area on the other side and would look in to the rest of the kitchen/family room and then the garden - I think it will work. Not sure if beyond the island would be the kitchen/dining table bit of the family room or the sitting/playing bit.
    I think....

You definitely need a ice/cold water dispenser - we have had one for about 4 years now and wouldn't be without it.

Our one is pretty much this one: http://www.housetohome.co.uk/products/type/electrical_large/refrigeration/ERL6296KK1_American_fridge-freezer_25291.html?subslug=/products/type/electrical_large/refrigeration/freezer_fridge I thought that was expensive enough but doesn't compete with the one's on PNs website.

You can buy jugs for about £5 that fit into the door of the fridge, that cool water. Just replace a cheapo filter once a month or so.

I've never been round anybody's for a proper meal, and never had anybody round either. Do you really believe that the 15 minutes you MIGHT spend cooking and wishing to chat outweighs the benefit of having a clear/clean/large space available for all activities?

I don't want anything blocking the clear eyeline through, or ANY clutter on the island. A sink with two taps and maybe a chopping board, to be near the sink. THATS it. Plus, an extractor would ruin the line through, and ruing my vaulted ceiling.

PNM, feeling particularly UNRICH today. I had to raid what is left of my savings to pay for dog dog because, this early in the month we've spent what we have :( I'm hoping the kitchen will be going in in round about 8 years. You see, its taken us so long to buy a house we've got used to HUGELY long decision making processes.

In fact, dh is a bit programmed that way having spent so long in Oxford/around Dons. Heard the joke to explain this?

How many Oxford dons does it take to change a light bulb?

    ''CHANGE?''

... and another thing: if you're cooking on the island, then everything has to be carried across the floor to the island and away from it. Draining veggies in boiling water... across the floor; popping something you've just rinsed into a saucepan .... dripping hand holding them across the floor; serving up ... possibly across the floor. You'd be creating a slippery/dirty/wet floor too often.

I don't expect to ever have a new kitchen. I'll buy a house that's got an OK one and live with it.

I don't think we need a cold water dispenser or an icemaker. I think the water from those tastes funky (to my palate).

I like your fidge though. I found the one's PN's found, and inside I think they look kind of home made. :o But easy to clean. I like the plastic boxes for crispers. But I do like the way they make more reachable use of the corner space.

Unreliable bodies make different demands on space...reaching is a big issue for me somedays:o
