Still rich though - you were on a plane!

    :)

A poor man would still be rowing.

It cost the best part of five grand (dollars) to get here. You think Rip Off Britain is bad? Rorting Aussie Scum is even worserer.

Never mind. I've saved about $1,000 on buying decent shirts and a suit, much needed as I've not bought a decent suit for 4 years.

And it's illegal to sell proper cheese made from raw milk (mostly) in Australia so I went a bit mad in Neals Yard Dairy.

I've been very frugal apart from that. My mates wouldn't let me pay for anything on Friday night except for the paracetamol the next morning!

Gen, you might want to edit that to put the "r" where it belongs in "shirts".
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Who says there should be an 'r' in there?

DH assures me he couldn't live without ''real'' cheese. I could, I'm just not sure I'd want to.

In Australia we have a chesse called 'Tasty'. I think it's a rather poor anagram of 'utterly and unspeakably appalling'.

To make matters worse, the leading brand is this (NSFW probably). It's just awful.

I just finished some rather excellent Keene's Cheddar from Neal's Yard.

Keens? I know them. edit: actually I've lost the taste for cheese recently. Which is ok, so long as I get it back one day. I worship and the alter of chaource, so I'd like to celebrate born again tastebuds sometime.

I didn't think much could be more tedious than the book Marley and Me but now we're trying to watch the film and think it is. :(

Re blue badge....I have gone as far as requesting the forms, not filled them in yet but it is progress!

My reticence is because they say you have to be unable or virtually unable to walk, well I can walk, just not very far but still a lot further than virtually unable or unable would be able to do in my view (virtually unable to my mind means no more than one or two steps, maximum of 10 steps), so not really a pride thing...although that does come into it in a small way.

It's an autistic trait (of which I do have some, not the whole lot but some), I take wording of rules literally.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

My first school was two separate buses away, about 7 miles away on the other side of town.
Then I went to the local/village school, so I walked as it was only 0.75 mile tops.
Then I went to secretarial college, which was just one bus and 4.5 miles away. Well, one bus into town, then we'd walk the last mile across town as it'd be quicker than getting a 2nd bus and there were 3-4 of us from our village on the same bus going there.

My first school was a 5 minute walk away, so obviously just walked it. My high school was a 20 minute stomp away (I had moved onto stomping as I discovered it quicker than just walking) up hill...always walked that too.

My DH was at uni with this guy who made his second million selling imported French and English cheeses in Australia. He's moved on since then but seems to suggest it is possible to buy decent cheese there.

    Where to shop:

For a start you are unlikely to find great examples of delicious artisan and farmhouse cheese amongst the pre cut plastic wrapped wedges at your local supermarket. Making any meaningful cheese selection requires a visit to a reliable specialist retailer, or alternatively a cheese maker that sells directly through a cellar door. A guide to the best is the display which should include a range of whole natural rinded cheeses rather than row upon row of waxed or rectangular vacuum packed blocks.

Be prepared for a complete sensory experience when you walk though the door and remember that buying great cheese is not something that can be hurried.

Very much so thanks! It's good to see the red cars on the top step of the podium again. I have very good feelings about Pat Fry joining the team. DH and I have differing views on the last lap incident involving Massa and Hamilton. I'm inclined to agree that it was a racing incident, though DH thinks Hamilton is dangerous and to paraphrase "definitely not one of the nice people from Hertfordshire". Only in the UK would you get rain on one side of the track but not the other! What did you think morag?
