I actually did the "not nice" thing there and went through quaderas1's entire list of past postings (which all say "ty for share"), marking every one of them spam :)

And boy that makes me feel good :)

Big kudos for this PN. I did the same - I did think about posting like you did, but was pushed for time...:o

    Update on MIL:-

    1. She has a broken arm and a dislocated shoulder, and they want to operate.
    2. They have her on morphine, so DW thinks that even if MIL survives the operation, she'll be a hard drug addict. She'll be shooting up in the lavatories of the old folks home, I can just see it now.
    3. MIL says that she has medical insurance, so she wants to be seen privately. Gah, I think I'll just do my bit and take her dog for a walk.

    Such fun!

Recently I visited a friend, & other family members were there with their children.

One person was warming a bottle for a baby, & wasn't paying attention. Another child picked up the boiling hot jug, & well, you can guess.

The new mums did nothing other than panic. Luckily both their granny & I (who was lucky enough to be a first aider) picked up the little un & had him in the bath, with the shower on as cold water & got his clothes off straight away. It was lucky.

I took the mum & little un to hospital (I was the only one with a car) & we got seen in A&E pretty much straight away. We had a consultant trying to be "trendy" & "with it" who after assessing the little un told mum they'd be giving him heroin. He left, she went into a blind panic until I explained what morphine was & where heroin comes from. Likewise, she is also convinced her little un is going to grow into a raving smackhead...

BTW, the little un is fine, & the quick dousing in water means little scarring if any at all!:) Phew!

I run my entire, expanding, empire from a cheap PC bought in 2006, with 1GB memory and a 40GB HD and slow processor, with a 15" monitor. And a cheapo laptop bought in 2008, which is my "just in case" backup.

    :)

An empire I tell ya! Run from a pile 'o cr4p

    :)

Bigger risk is everyones thanks count suffering terribly!;)

So so chuffed, thought I had completely messed them up.

Big congrats Sue. It is hard work, & all us here know you put the effort in & deserve your rewards!:)

Got the agent's quote for selling our old garden yesterday and not sure that we like it:

    £1k for a sale price of £20k
    £2k for a sale price of £20-25k
    £3k for a sale price of £25-30k
    £4k for a sale price of £30k+

Personally, I think we could get to £20k without him, but it's worth paying £1k to keep out of the frame. :D The rest looks a little steep and I don't like the stepped scale as opposed to a true sliding one.:(

He argues that as he may have to negotiate with a number of different people, value their houses with & without the land/access etc it will involve him in more work. I say we could pretty well value the houses off the Internet (two have sold in the last year) so that's twaddle. Anyway, will they take much notice of what he says, as he's working for us?

What do you folk think? The needs of country folk mean that I will be on a major foraging expedition in a short while, so won't be around for a few hours, but I'll be back later. :)

If you prefer a sliding scale then tell him. Those prices suggest 1k plus 20% of anything over 20k.

    Does that include VAT?

If its steep then suggest lower. In the same way that you don't know what to charge for the land, he probably doesn't know what to charge you :)

He's talking twaddle, ho doesn't value for your buyers, as he is acting for you. So the buyers should be sceptical of anything he says.

Other option is to tell the ex-neighbours that you will sell for 30k and let them carve it up between them. Just say you need 30k for a project and if they can come up with it you will sell, but if not you intend holding on to it for another 5 years. Then step back and wait for their counter offer.

Foxtrot Oscar are the random words that spring immediately to mind!

I don't give a flying tortoise if he thinks he needs to value other people's houses. They can pay for that privilege themselves. Seriously, this is not a complicated transaction and there is not a chance that he can claim circa 10-12% of the sale price with a straight face. How does that fee structure work when he immediately gets another £1000 when someone pays £1 more than the previous person? He might as well offer one of them £10 to make them offer £1 more.

Having a total giraffe at your expense. Please do this yourself. Before the fees were stated, I thought that they would be a waste of time, now I think he's a waste of space.

That has made me really angry! No way is this transaction more complicated than a house sale. Just not.

    oh dear!

I guess the choice on opting to go private partly depends on whether that involves moving hospital or if the hospital she is now in has a private wing.

Also whether the NHS saying she needs an operation means they will operate tonight, tomorrow or in a few days time.

    A brief update on MIL:

It turns out that she was running for the bus when she fell over. Can I just suggest that, if you get to 87 and have osteoporosis, you should bear this saga in mind and just wait for the next bus.

She's at the Whittington in Highgate, which is a perfectly respectable NHS hospital, where we have been very impressed by the nursing staff. I cannot think that she would be better treated privately, although she would not have to share a room.

They operated last night to un-dislocate her shoulder, and they have her on nil-by-mouth this morning, so there seems to be a good chance that they'll operate to pin the broken bones back together again today. We have details of a private surgeon at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, but that would mean moving her from the Whittington, and this guy qualified in the early 1980's, which means he must be almost as old as she is. Personally, I think I'd rather take my chances with the Senior Registrar doing the op.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Great news, Sue! A real boost for you, eh? Well done.

    What's the next one.....Washing Machine Maintenance Part 1? :D

Hmm, think I failed that one when youngest knocked the bit inside the machine and I had to get a new one.

It is a real boost as I had completely lost motivation and had been thinking of giving up for a little while (I had convinced myself that I had failed miserably)...but now, my mojo is back!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
