Gutted for you........what happened to their circumstances to make them withdraw the offer?
He is a doctor and the house isn't close enough to the hospital. Something he should have checked previously but his doctor friend (who has also been round the house) lives round the corner, recommended him the area (recently moved in from oop North, they are presently renting) and he presumed the area was fine. However, it's a newish rule being enforced for new staff and they can't enforce it for old. Hence friend lives in the area.
If he is more than 10 miles from the hospital he has to sleep there for the 2 nights a week he would be on call. Apparently he has been to see the Chief Exec and the answer is still no. So he has to live within 10 miles of Dudley, poor bloke.
In return, we are now the proud owners of a very expensive full structural survey of our own house. I'd rather have sold it.
So it looks like we'll be moving in there (again) as we're down to the solicitors discussing the finer points of shark decorated light fittings and inbuilt children's beds and fibre optic lighting on our home house. And I'm going to make H remove the fibre optic lighting from the unsold house (he doesn't know this yet, nice bit of replastering for him) so that both kids can have it in the next house.
The only thing that bolsters me is that the house we want, no one else seems to as the asking price is hideously overpriced on face value. The day I let my self get excited. If we're lucky we'll get more for the unsold house and pay less for the one we want. Who knows.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Its a shame but feels like one of those 'everything happens for a reason ' moments.
Now I am intrigued about fibre optic lighting....what is it?
I guess you keep it on the market and see what shows up...if the one you want is a bit over priced, it should sit there for a while yet....just waiting for you to be ready.:)0 -
Which way does your window face? I'll give your tower a wave tomo am as I can see your buildings from my studio.....we are down river in the very cheap bit. Cheap for the time being as....
...................there have been 'suits' about last 2 weeks...(makes me nervous)
used to have a great view looking east down the river towards the thames barrier and the dome. at the moment though, i'm looking north, which is not quite a scenic, although does overlook the olympic stadium. in a couple of weeks moving to the south side of the building, think you just see a load of towers that way. i want my east facing view back though.0 -

pffft the tube often takes more than 16 minutes on its own. it normally takes about 25 minutes to actually get from my desk to the seat in the front carriage of the train.
i reckon i will be awarded some kind of medal.
PN - can you create an app whereby highly skilled commuters like me can compare their record times for travelling across london. i reckon it will really catch on, you'll sell 1, maybe 2 copies of that app, at 59p a pop you're on to a winner!0 -

When you move windows, I'll give you a wave as we are right next to one of the landmarks you mentioned.0 -
do they keep moving you because you keep getting promoted?
DH chose a tiny office when he got to choose his own...on the basis that the more junior you are the more likely it is you'd have to share if they get too big. He got moved into a larger office not too long after on the basis that he isn't going to have to share and they wanted to use the office he'd chosen to store stuff in. Other than that all he cared about was it faced the right way to put seedlings on his windowsill.0 -
I
We discovered a fascinating small bis near us. One of my staff found a hand in a skip (a chipped mannequin hand) and we found out there was a mannequin place. Poppped down there to discover a fairy land of 100's of mannequins and they do all the display MQ's for all the top stores.
There is a container building outside where they do the hair...kind of like a real salon without sinks and the girls are putting in curlers and snipping whilst the torso is trapped with a bungee strap to a chair and they do the make up with the head strapped but the person applying it is just like a make up artist a real person would have. It was quite surreeal.
I think it was one of those moments where you kind of had to be there.:)
I don't suppose if I beg them and promise them a kidney they would lend one for my project? hrms...0 -

I don't know how people work in an office by themselves. I'd get bored
I'm in charge of a team but I sit with everyone else. I stick my earphones in and they leave me alone. They should at me when they want something and it's resolved quickly.
I'm sat with a book tonight. Work can go swizz for today. I'm going to regret it at about 3am when I'm waking up to catch up but I'm enjoying my book now.0 -
I get them in the smartprice bags from Asda or Lidl. Just soak them in juice for 20mins before eating, pile on fruit, mixed seeds and bit of natural yoghurt and it keeps the tummy full for hours and hours as I think they swell up inside and take ages to digest. I live on them during busy periods but only in the daytime. Always have a 'proper' dinner at night.
Thanks FC. I'm not sure what smartprice bags are, but ordinary porridge oats from the supermarket should be okay?
And thanks, John, I didn't realise that they were pre-steamed, although I did know that they were rolled.
I wonder whether one can get the 'proper' oats that need overnight cooking any more? Should do okay in a crock pot, as we don't have peat fires? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
