We are doing that at the front with the garage but as this is our only access to the garden the plan is to have a door on the back of the garage and then a path down the side so you can get to the back without going through the house - after all after we win the lottery we will have to get a mini digger through to do the pool.....An option that my old neighbour took, was to have the ground floor really near the boundary and the upstairs taken in a bit to comply with the regulations.I think....0

But I bet one of you lot likes it.
I quite see the appeal of it....and I can imagine the sort of house it would suit.;)Doozergirl wrote: »Stripes are back. Love this company:

Quite Missoni, I think!
Even Louder (and even more expensive)

Not sure about that one!
Pattern will be back soon, I am certain. People will be kitting their houses out like pubs once more.
Talking about houses like pubs:

:rotfl::rotfl:Pub house stylee....love it.
I love the Paul Smith Swirl pattern in the brighter shades.....found one of his rugs on a google last night when looking for patterened carpets for LIR. I always wanted one of the swirl bags and now they are being discontinued...and I never got to afford one afterallThe coldest I've been in here in the daytime was about 2C. That was up at Lithgow in the Blue Mountains in March:that is amazingly cold for March here. The Snowy Mountains get cold in winter, it's 0C there (Perisher) as I type at lunchtime.
I'm taking the Generalissimos to the UK in July for a couple of weeks. We have a plan to move to Europe (France?) at some point, perhaps in 5-7 years.
The trouble with the kids having started school is that there will never be a convenient time. We plan to send them to international school so hopefully that will make any move seamless and stress free:rotfl:
I guess you are right....and even though it's an international school, they'll make connections, mates and so on. It's hard relocating a 12 year old..but still possible.
NDG's place is sounding lovely and must be great to get the core work done before moving in.
We could never do that and had to live with half finished work, no work and all the mess as we were so maxed out........we had some amazing indian restaurant carpet for several years with really hairy frayed edges.....but ened up with slate through the hall and pale maple in the lounge. I think the avocado auite (with matching avocado and black mould mastic trim) didn't come out until 7 years ago.
The worst bit is after 16 years, we kind of need to start all over again plus we have a sinking problem as the ground floor has dropped 3'' in the centre....we have worked out the cause (water running under the house that expanded during the snow) and everything will need to come up so it can be re-levelled. It is concrete so pretty straightforward to do.
When we can do this is anyones guess and we will have to live in it during works....plus our holy grail shop fit has just cost us our back extension fund....and new kitchen:(0 -

I've been so busy trying to do stuff like work at the library, run a business, run a charity and keep my job at the library that I've run out of hours in the day. I was horrified when I saw what I unpacked that I'd brought at Tescos. I've stocked up on Pot Noodles, processed cheese triangles and crispbreads, digestive biscuits and teabags, and breakfast cereals because I don't have time to cook anything at the moment. I had to go out at lunchtime just to buy a bag of fruit, such are my withdrawal symptoms for something decent. Raw oats and mixed seeds is the way to go when you are pushed for time...mix up with juice, chopped fruit and yoghurt and keeps you fuelled for hours and hours.0 -
neverdespairgirl wrote: »We spent a lot of yesterday at our new place making decisions about colours / paints / floors.
Lots of work has already been done - all the ceilings re-plastered, the walls re-plastered where they need it, the bathrooms all ripped out, the walls re-built, bath and new shower tray installed, undercoating etc done, the windows all sanded down and re-painted (and they are HUGE windows, 7 feet high and very wide!)
Now we've made most of the important decisions - we're having grey slate in the hall downstairs and the kitchen upstairs, and pale sandy slate in the bathrooms. We're having engineered oak floors in the bedrooms.
The whole place apart from the bathrooms is going to be painted jasmine white, with a china blue colour on the door frames, a steel beam, and the chimney breast upstairs. Isaac's room is a pink-ish cream, after we rejected his first choices of bright orange and dark red. Because we do want him to actually sleep once in a while.
We are also going to have slightly bizarre framed exposed patches of the industrial bricks upstairs - left unpainted, and "framed" as if they were pictures.
It's all very exciting!
It is exciting! You can't beat natural materials as floor coverings. Get all the basics right. The white will show the space for what it is and if you're lucky enough to have interesting objects to fill the walls, they become the centrepiece. Although the space itself is the centrepiece in that place and I couldn't see it being any colour that tried to upstage the dimensions and character. I love London brick. I'd build myself a London brick wall here and sleep right by it, but it would look totally daft. Not just me sleeping next to it
A proper luxury to be able to do it all and move in.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

We were going to go slate but copped out due to sealing and possibility of damage.
Went for proper porcelain in the end same look as naturals but without the downsides of naturals or ceramic (stain resistant and straight through colour, no top surface like glaze etc.)0 -

When you're in a rush/or too tired to eat anything more than a pot noodle, it's sometimes nice to just open a tin of pineapple ... and eat it straight out of the can with a spoon, so no washing up either.
Brilliant idea Pastures! I quite like the little pots of peach slices too, so I will get some in. I know that you are right but it tastes and looks like lumpy wallpaper paste:o I'd much rather have a curry flavoured pot noodle. Apparently I am a snob.......
So says my mother on telling her about a talk I had with eldest son and how his new girlfriend might find me too downmarket (she goes to a posh school and owns horses) and he said "Mum, you act posher and you are snobbier than she is, you are so middle class"
Mum agrees with eldest, I can apparently be very snobby at times and she has no clue where I get it from...and then relates that it is a family trait as her sisters were like it too!
Oh well, would much rather be seen as slightly snobby and middle class than a chav.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0
