What was the scent? Can probably still get it online.

As for forgetting, if you can remember to get some tiny resealable plastic bags, about 2"x3" or so, then when you go into the shops get them to spray the smell onto a strip of card and you can shove the card in there with the name written on it.

Those are excellent ideas for round one, I wouldn;'thave hought of the baggies! Thank you.

that way narrowing it down and then starting round two...the ''skin test''.

Not really with a £10k allowance every year, unless of course you are a real high roller :)

    :) I wish.

I was thinking more of items like stamp duty. The only way I know of avoiding tax is by holding interest paying assets (like corporate bonds) within an ISA. I think that avoids it.

I had a quick check of Fidelity earlier. They don't charge for their S&S ISA wrapper. It's simply the 0.3% total expense charge for the Fidelity Moneybuilder UK Index fund.

A couple of quick questions (actually one quick and one long :o).

For NDG or anyone else who knows: What is a section 37 witness, please?

For our amazing resident web-bloodhound, PN, or anyone else with the time and inclination:

One of the salesmen who's been to my house to quote for solar PV recommended hunting about online (especially on discussion forums) for people who've got PV panels of various brands to see how they perform in real life, which may not be the same as in the standard lab conditions used for the official data. So I've been trying to do so.

One salesman offered quotes for Sharp, Suntech or Sanyo panels. I've been able to find references to these without too much trouble. The other salesman I've seen so far was PVE who only install panels from their parent company Solar Technology. I can't find anything much online about them. Can you find anything more than I've been able to track down?

    Cheers.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

well, not just interest paying assets, obviously you can hold shares in an ISA and avoid paying income tax on the dividends and capital gains tax on the disposals. same with funds of shares (or bonds).

contributing to a pension is also tax avoidance, although obviously you pay tax on the income from the pension when you draw it down - but since you can benefit from it by avoiding at 40% and paying tax at 20% in the future.

there are other common ways of tax avoidance- e.g. gifting assets removes them from your estate for IHT purposes (as long as you don't drop dead for 7 years).

also, you can avoid CGT by transferring an asset to your partner and using their annual CGT allowance against the gain.

http://www.hse.gov.uk/enforce/enforcementguidesc/collectingwitness/statements.htm#_People_who_may ? (there's are a few other possibilities, but this one seemed most likely. )

Maybe. There has been a pre-inquest review for late-nearly-ex and I've received some notes from it. It lists some names under the heading "section 37 witnesses". Then it says something about "all other witnesses will have to testify in person". I wondered what it meant. I did find something that seemed to be about witnesses submitting written statements, so I wondered if it was that, but now I am wondering if it's this corporate thingy. (I am not going to give any details here, but suffice it to say that the issue of corporate responsibility for the accident may be relevant.) I have no idea who any of the names on the list are, so that doesn't give me any clues.

It's not clear whether Solar Technology International are the same as Solar Technology PV Energy Ltd. If they are, then it's odd that PVE aren't listed on their page of international fitting companies. It's very confusing.

Has anyone had the panels long enough yet to be able to give a fair assessment of their lifetime performance? My parents say theirs have been generating loads but then this is their first year and it is the only sort they have ever had so there is no baseline.
    I think....

There's a whole raft of PV nutters on one of the forums on MSE. Something like electricity/gas, or maybe DIY/in your house.

It's all something I have no understanding of and will most likely never have

I just think "wait 10 years and they'll have one the size of a roof tile that generates everything you need for just £200"

I just try and get the people we are [STRIKE]paying[/STRIKE]trusting to get other things on the house right to sort it out for us. I don't understand it either PN.

roof tile style ones and/or cheaper both sound good though....tell 'em to hurry up with them!
