My peas are flowering!
Is this too early? They're only about a foot to a foot and a half high.
Getting ready for a weekend of repotting tomatoes, planting more lettuce seeds, putting up the 2nd (smaller) greenhouse and generally enjoying the outdoors and the weather. Got a bowls match too (I really love playing on hot summer days), and I've started reading The Simpsons and Philosophy - The D'oh! of Homer. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

If they are happy to flower, I'd let them. Some of my big mangetouts have formed, and they are nowhere near the 5' or whatever they're supposed to reach.....:)0 -
The main reason people buy a grafted tree (a root from one source joined to a piece of stem taken from another named plant) is to know exactly what they will be getting, and yes, dwarfness comes into it.
If one sows seed of a dwarf acer with very finely cut leaves, the resulting seedlings won't breed true, because lots of cross pollination will have occurred. The seedlings will have leaves of varying colours and probably none of them will be as finely dissected. Some of the darned things will also grow to 35' instead of making a nice rock garden feature!
I have grown lots of acers from seed, but they are devils to coax through their first winter. At the moment I have half a dozen originating from the same rare tree and they're all a little different.
Well they are meant to be hardy and grow to 2m wide x 3m tall in 10 years. At the moment they are probably 1 foot high with only a few leaves apiece.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. We are back from our hols in Norfolk, and very nice they were too! Particularly enjoyed the Eastern Daily Press which featured a major news item on its front page about some Norfolk people who were not hurt in a hotel fire in Devon. Some other people in the hotel had to be rescued by the Fire Brigade. They were absolutely fine, too. Apparently, on the way back, the Norfolk people's coach was involved in an incident when it had to brake sharply. It's a very exciting place, Norfolk, as you can tell.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Our big story is a 'stray' cat that travelled 20 miles in the engine compartment of someone's car. He burnt his ear and he needs a home. The next day, we learn that does already have a home over the other side of town and that he's serial hitch-hiker.
Oh, and the ex-Council leader is a septuagenarian sex pest, but we're not allowed to talk about it.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

This broke off in my garden this morning.Silvercar, I might try and grow it (another MSEer told me to cut the hed of spent rose blooms and plant the twig, because you never know!). It will have the same situation at your acers: being on its ''own'' roots. I think with roses it tend to make for a weaker plant. I love this rose and I'm so cross with it for allowing itself to be broken.

Our local news is some chap from a travelling family, 24, found dead in his tent at a festival at the weekend. Nothing suspicious .... which I guess means we can put that down to drink/drugs/too much hedonism.
See - people dying of sheer excitement when they're in a field 2 miles inland, in a tent here.0 -

In some ways, you have to admire him/her (could be a her!) for still being that interested.
The other big Eastern Daily Press news, by the way, was of someone who was caught whilst driving and using two mobile phones at the same time.
