Late night question to 'Those that Know about These Things'.
We did a lot of talking and some planning for 2-3 years time and I was wondering about planning rules on outside 'workshops' or other buildings on Small holdings (non agri tie ones and small hobby type of 2 - 3 acres).
If you bought a house with 3 acres that had some stables or other out buildings/workshops could you get planning to turn them into a studio space (for my type of work)? There seem to be a lot of places that once had horses but don't seem to operate as a school/livery any longer and only small bit of land.
It doesn't need to be swishy but would need windows + elec for lighting. Water not reqd.
Technically, I can live/work anywhere and we have 2.5 years left on riverffront lease and wouldn't want to continue to rent after that time.
We will be discarding some corp stuff soon too as it's doing my head in......I need my freedom of mind back 100% not P/T.
Any tips would be great......and areas would be Dorset/Devon/Wilts I think and not too far inland....but deff inland as couldn't afford sea views and space.
Come and live near me. This house was almost bought by a fashion designer for just such a purpose, they live in one village and have a ''workshop'' in another. But wanted to combine all here.
Councils are despite it all, quite pro stuff that brings work in...especially areas like the one I'm in.
Plus choice of M4, A303 and train: London superquick for meetings. Lots of logistics companies locally because communications by road are good.
downside is disatance from airports.0 -

No. The bat man reckons they have only just moved in ''They must like you....''
No old droppings, only new ones.
the big issue here is they have both moved in and set up nursery in a big rush0 -

I found a lovely one in your area the other night and we are also thinking long term as we have no pensions and so on.
Something pretty and characterful could have other uses later on when we are older.
Airports not really an issue but near roads and trains to London perfect.
DD is still only 17 but the timing is perfect plus she may carry on living here in London family home anyway....all depends on what she decides to do work wise later on.
So, the council would look favourably on a owrkshop/studio type place plus convert a barn or large shed into a despatch depot and storage area?
Whilst I have no idea if it will go to plan (unlikely) the kind of thing in mind would require a few staff , mixed FT P/T and limited skillset (by that not super wizzy creative types but admin asst, lad to pack and so on).
We have a window of 10 years, I think, before the parents of both of us would need us around a lot more (and all local to us in London) but you can't predict the future too much.
We had a famous Rapper film his vid at our place today. Saw all these people running around on the roofs opposite, a huge white roller turned up and other flash cars....fast stunt bike filming down the derelict bits......so after gettiong the 'feel of da hood', they got in their rollers and went home. :rotfl:0 -
If it's just you in your studio .... it could be a "hobby room". Depends if you'd be employing people to come there and/or receiving large deliveries of supplies.
But if it's a woman with a sewing machine in a shed, then maybe what the eye doesn't see etc...0 -

I like bats I WANT hundreds of them here. They eat bugs that otherwise chomp on us, so they are great. I' ore than happy to build them whatever they want ...if it means we have what we want too!
My parents have accommodated their bats to everyone's satisfaction - shall I ask them how they went about it?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
The delights of postal voting I have not set foot in a polling station for years.
Mind you were I live a queue is classed as waiting behind one person.
I'd feel I was missing out - I really like actually voting. By post wouldn't be the same at all....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Same here. I am off litter picking soon. About time I did something for the village.
They will probably send me back whence I came and tell me to pick the litter out of my own hedges....:o0 -

Yes please. Its different for different species though and whether they are breeding or only roosting but it would be really good to get some practical ideas. The bat guy was enthusiastic...but a little impractical.0
