My brief visit may be longer than I intended. I don't like using the internet before bedtime. I find it too stimulating. A book puts me in a far better mood for sleep.
I sometimes post stories I think are interesting, this is one of them: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/01/24/opinion/main7276508.shtml. I'm not a fatalist. I believe something needs and can be done..0 -
Sue - awesome news about the support you're getting from your new sil. She sounds wonderful. :A
Here's hoping things work out for you to continue having a bit more of the freedom to have a life that most people take for granted, and that you're able to get an interesting and satisfying job in due course.
lir - Late-nearly-ex had dreadful trouble with his skin that got better when he gave up both dairy and corn. He still used to make (and eat) wonderful cream-laden puddings whenever we had anyone round for supper, though, and considered it worth the week or so of suffering afterwards.
Good news about the girl getting the transplant, although of course it means some other family have lost a child. I was gutted when we were told late-nearly-ex's organs weren't suitable for transplant. Too much blood loss, I think, and too long a delay between death (at the roadside) and getting the body back to the hospital. And I guess a lot of his organs would have been too mangled to be any use. IIRC there was some talk of being able to use his corneas, but I'm ashamed to say I can't remember if that actually happened. It's all a bit of a blur, really. I hope they did. I'd love to think there's somebody out there somewhere who can now see because of him.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Youngest son now off school, his peak flow dipped below the line the nurse drew yesterday when he did them last night and he is just on the line now....blooming colds! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Horizon: science under attack. should be good as sir paul nurse is commentating.
Missed this, dang!
Regarding the stories where staff have made assumptions & refused business (Viva, sue etc) do you not go back to rub their faces in it? I always do, & where practical, publicly and/or in front of management. In front of other customers is always great.
Regarding tv, I caught Pulp Fiction on the beeb the weekend, & hadn't seen it for a while. Still a phenomenal film.
I also watched the Iron Maiden Flight 666 documentary, which was great! Following on from the assumptions, for the uninitiated it is great to learn that the lead singer is also their pilot (of their own plane), as well as being the former number 2 in the UK at fencing, as well as a published author and so on...
Oh, & I wanna go to south america & be in one of tose crowds for a gig. WOW!:cool:It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Hehe LJ, being a huge Iron Maiden fan, I already knew that. I didn't watch it though, youngest did as he is also a huge Iron Maiden fan (bordering on obsessional) too.
And yes, I did tell them rather snottily about their preconceptions....I didn't hold back in those days.We made it! I think its the gypsy thing again tonight.
Thinking about what Viva sais about the lack of clarity about diferent types of gypsy/travellers it occured to me that where I just moved from by far the most common type of traveller was New Age traveller.0 -

Ah...memories...I remember seeing them in Brussels in the early eighties, at their peak, around the Number of the Beast/Piece of Mind albums. They were awesome, they still are, although Bruce seems to have a problem hitting the high notes nowadays
But my mom didn't really appreciate the "Eddie" posters I brought home from that gig0 -
I saw them at Donnington 1988, Wembley '88 I think again and then another time at Wembley a few years later.
Donnington and the first Wembley were the Seventh son tour.
I was too young to go in the early 80's although I did go to see Tina Turner with my dad..my all time fave record of theirs is Live after Death/Hallowed be thy name.
Youngest has now popped just above the line again so I have relaxed a bit...for now!We made it! 2nd ever gig was Maiden - together with Anthrax, just before they started the very bad downward slide that resulted in Blaze Bayley  joining them. Anthrax were the support I believe. 1990!:eek:It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0
