    It's 1969, like me. ;)

I have a floorplan I would be willing to post if anyone could tell me how to get it onto the thread. It's currently in a powerpoint file.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Same as ours. They were good sized rooms and windows, allowing a feeling of space and light. Plus a decent garden.

A lot different to today's 'toy town' new builds.

I've seen it now. I couldn't have been taking proper notes because I imagined it to be older/larger, kind of ivy-clad and 1920-1930s style, whereas that looks like a 1985-90 house to me.

I would have said early 70s. It looks solid. I couldn't work out whether the photo was off the back and I was looking at a conservatory or it was a big porch at the front of the house.

To post the plan, right click and use "save as" then save it as jpg or similar. Then you can load up to facebook and link again or open a flickr account or similar.

I remember carolt saying that carol wasn't her real name and now it appears lydia isn't a lydia. Are these the names of your favourite dolls or names you wish you had?

Yes, too many new builds look like legoland.

    Well, I finished this book:
    41J2qPjPb0L.jpg
With an interesting conclusion that the ripper murders were by different people - 1 person doing 3 of them.
Also introduced me to a new suspect I've no knowledge of! From very initial investigations, there is promise there (but I find that with every new suspect I come across...;))

I've moved on to the book Viva saw in her library recently:
    jack-the-ripper-letters-from-hell-13214280.jpeg
which focuses on all the letters recieved by the police or otherwise associated with the case (for those who don't know, the name Jack the Ripper was given in the famous "Dear Boss" letter sent to the Central News agency, publish around the time of the so-called double event but after 2 murders. Popular opinion currently & at the time is that they weren't written by the murderer.) It is really interesting.

My visits might be a bit intermittent for the next week or so folks - got a lot on work & homewise (illness' & some massive work issues I'll discuss another time).

LydiaJ, congrats!:j Hoping for much happiness for you in the new home.

One last thing. I have a couple of friends I'm supporting at the mo', as they've recieved redundancy notices. I am aware of a lot of people working for charities or in the voluntary sector are recieving redundancy notices.

One of the first place councils will look to cut, is funding to voluntary organisations (quite ironic with the big society boolsheet going on but there you go...)

I am passionate about these services. They provide local jobs. For the volunteers they provide training, learning, social contact and self esteem. They develop work skills. And for the people who need/use such services, they can indeed be literally a lifeline.

    They are community assets.

Accordingly, I implore anyone reading, please get involved, lobby your councillors, MP's, or support in other ways, (donations, or by giving some time), write to your local newspapers, and protect these services which do phenomenal work with very very little other than the goodness of people's hearts.

    Thanks:o

You could tile it - it would look very posh (I know, bit of a bigger job than painting!)

My kitchen won't be there by July....so tiling might be a step to far for such an interim. when the kitchen moves I'm not going to have one for a while and then..:oI'm going to have a room called the kitchen with a cooker/fridge/sink etc and some tables/cupboards until we can afford the real deal in a few years. I'd rather wait and have it done once properly, with solid wood made to fit the space so will be hand built...cupboards the depth and width etc I want...not what is standard...probably less deep for me, with a walk in ''pot room'' and ''larder'' There is a guy done the road who does handbuilt kitchens, so hopefully his stuff will be good and I can use him.

It's not really worth lobbying local councilors, because ultimately they have very little choice. The conservative government has decided to cut 25% of the budget of most councils over the next few years. Councils are going to struggle to meet their statutory duties in any case.

It is the conservatives Big Society in action...

I'm still putting off doing my tax return. I've got the basics together (all the relevant bank statements and receipts etc).... but I can't face turning that into the spreadsheet yet :)

I guess I need a table really. If I had a table where I could put it all out in piles it'd be more likely to get done quickly. And a decent PC, already had to reboot this one 3x this morning... but I don't want to buy a new PC until I am more settled.

So ... it'll get done .... soon. Maybe today, maybe tomorrow. It's not rocket science, just dull. And, I know I've overpaid tax anyway, so not particularly bothered :)

It will be interesting to watch. Of course, for those you feel passionate about donatingtime and money is the what the big society is about.

Here we have several crossover services, an acquaintance here spends several hours a week (eta...last week the person told me they spent 10 hours receiving support...for a six years behing them addiction, and four hours giving support. This is why they can't cope getting a job)in various AA style meetings but all different groups. I would prefer they have access to one, may be two groups instead of half dozen or so, funded well for the size, rather than 6 different struggling fundings helping the same core group of people and then the money were freed up for something else.

It will feel better when you've done it though. :) the dullness can be put behind you for a while.
