Brand new roofline (well a few months old) is now hanging off.....

Had a brand new roofline (gutters, downpipes, soffits, the lot basically) fitted in late summer....

Now because of the snow its all hanging off (literally the bargeboards and soffits are hanging away from the house walls - gutters are attached still but literally no use as the whole roofline is hanging off the roof/house wall.... looks like its all going to go soon with the next shift of snow.

Where do we stand?

Got the bloke coming tomorrow morning who fitted it (didn't mention anything about paying for anything) - do we have any leg to stand on? We didnt get a guarantee with it but is there any consumer right/legal right with this sort of thing?

    Hi there,
Well I forgot to say in my original post that we live in a BISF style "pre-fab" house made of metal along the top half - the roofline (old one) is also metal so no wood involved so its a bit different to a normal case of covering up old rotten timbers with new UPVC as in our case there were no rotten wooden timbers (but the new roofline is UPVC).

I'll try and take a photo - but its definitely the roofline itself and not the gutter thats hanging off. To be fair, the gutter is still fastened on tight - shame the whole lot is hanging off by over a foot now

Is it legally the case though? I'm a right wuss in a face-to-face scenario - hubby will be at work so it'll just be me that'll have to deal with it when he turns around and claims it'll be x amount to put right. If I know there is something legally binding that'll back me up then I'd be more than happy to fight my corner!

Just heard an almighty banging/crunching noise from outside.... more of it is hanging off now (again, the gutter is attached to the fascia panel itself - literally the bit that the gutter clips on to)..... its the fascia itself thats completely come loose and is hanging independently (warping the downpipe). :(

you only had it done a few monhs ago so it has only stayed on for 4 months ? , have a look at other properties similar to yours and see if they have had their facias and gutters repaced , are they haning off?
the job has not been done right , if you have faith in the person who put it up to put everything right , or ask for a refund and find someone else to do it , i'm sure trading standards would be interested

That's some lump of snow you have there....

IT's not uncommon for snow to slide off a roof and rip off the guttering and it's not necessarily any reflection on the quality of the job, just the sheer weight and force that's put on it.

In your case the guttering has held, but dragged the fascia off.

Without seeing the outside it's hard to tell if it's been nailed to the rafters or old fascia, but I would not automatcally assume it's an installation fault that you have there.

It looks like a straight forward case of bad workmanship. The person concerned should put it right

Indeed, none of the older nearby gutters/fascia's have fallen off, it clearly has not been fixed correctly.
