NPOWER & how do I use my credit???

iam £146 in credit on my combined G&E bills. Now my payments were £100 p/m but NPower want to increase them to £102 based on estimated future use.

I amended my DD online to £20 p/m. I thought the credit would be used up for the month and I would have extra money for xmas.

Man from Npower says "No".......

How do you use your credit if you cant amend payments.

Think the only solution will be to cancel the DD & then reset it up for Januarys payment.

Any other ideas ????

Npower allow whole bill quarterly direct debit. The amounts they take will be the exact amount of the bill. You won't be accruing any credit. They also still give you the £100 annual discount if you have duel fuel and pay this way. You need to save extra during summer as the winter bills will be higher so as long as you remember to put an extra amount aside during summer you should be OK for winter.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

They are presumably arguing you will use more over the winter & payments will balance out. In the meantime you are giving these vultures an interest free loan.

You are quite entitled to ask for your credit back and even switch elsewhere if you wish & are not tied into any contract. You do not therefore just have to accept that Npower say no if you remain unhappy!

and recieving a healthy discount over paying quarterly.

If you think you'd get more interest than the discount, go for it, but you'd be in the minority.

You will need more than £146 credit to see you through the winter, even if these current extreme weather conditions don't last.

My bill is online this morning, they have calculated my dual fuel direct debit over the next 6 months not 12 ! They now want £163 from Jan 1st instead of £120

Don't cancel the direct debit as the discount is all of nothing you would lose it. This issue comes up a lot and people are split, some people say I NEVER want to be in credit, and go mad about potential lost interest (totally ignoring the 100 discount for monthly OR quarterly direct debit).

Others realize as gas consumption in particular varies at some point you may have a debit and at some point a credit. Look at the figures on the bill, I bet the usage forecast for the coming six months is the bulk of your annual bill...

Well I had a bit of a rant and the DD has been re-assessed over 12 months and now it is £128. Don't believe in paying this wretched lot a penny more than I need to over the winter. A DD of £113 covered it last year.

Bought some energy efficient white goods and believe me it has made a difference to my energy consumption.

I had an estimated bill (direct debit Payments) £192 credit! Immediately called cs with updated reading. Asked for it to be refunded to my account. Not so. Estimated bills are not automatically refunded. (Even though I am giving that day's meter reading directly on the phone) Was advised to wait for new bill to arrive after new reading processed. Then when that bill arrives, call back advise them of the £ amount (hmmm..didn't I just tell them..couldn't they work it out)?

Waited for new bill. Then called. Bill now £152 credit. CS tried to advise keep it in the account (Oh no) nice persuasion effort..a little chapter and verse..However I insisted it went straight back into my bank account...then had to wait for that to be processed too.

Nice little earner if hanging on to customer's cash and maybe customers can't face the hassle of the refund process! Tut!

Npower are famous for this, you are with them for 6 months and get a note sayign we're going to assume you'll double your useage over the next year for no particular reason and are putting your DD up to £xxx accordingly.

Usually takes a phone call backed up with your historic useage numbers (be assertive) to cut it down to a reasonable-ish level.

Alternatively if you have a statement showing an excess ask them to refund your credit. (more difficult at this time of year just going into winter
