It's not possible to raise the top, it's solid granite, a big piece the width of the kitchen from wall to wall.

It is possible, probably inconvenient, it is the only real long term satisfactory solution.

We are planning on refurbishing the whole kitchen in 2-3 years, so I don't want to spend any money on lifting the granite or doing any work on it.

The previous occupants had an integrated dishwasher (Bosch) and an Ariston washing machine, that must have been less that 85 cm. I've checked Ariston and now they are Indesit, all 85 cm tall.

I'm not sure how integrated appliances work... do they need a plank of wood (like the kitchen doors) to cover the front? If they don't and they are less than 85, we might consider buying these...

The old dishwaher (that we have removed) does not have a cover, it has some sort of insulation material on top...

Been investingating a bit more. Integrated appliances are expensive & ugly, as we don't have matching doors for them.

Apparently it's possible to remove the top cover of Bosch appliances, and thin tops are sold separately, to replace the normal ones. This reduces the height from 85 to 82, which is what I need.

We'll probably end up doing this, as it seems the most sensible solution. I found a WM for £300 and dishwasher for £280, not as good as Beko prices but good for these brands I think.

Just need to ring both Customer services to check the models I want can have the tops replaced...

Edit: Rang CM and they said the dishwasher top can be taken and it doesn't need replacement, the WM can be replaced and I can order the replacement part from them.

You can generally take the top off ALL washing machines.

Once done - fill in the gap as suggested.

However you can also put soundproofing in and tape plastic sheeting over the top before sliding in the hole.

Keep the top in the loft or somewhere in case it is needed for returning, repairs under warrenty or selling on/giving away on Freegle etc when you redo the kitchen.

I have just had to order a new washing machine, I am going for the Bosch Logixx, according to the details, it is 84.2 cm tall. If all the Bosch ones are that size, it may just fit under your worktop.

EDIT: if it is a Classixx you are getting, they are 84.7 cm tall. May still fit!

However....did you look at the integrated washing machines? My daughter has one, and I can also see it on the Bosch website.........They are not "ugly" like the dishwashers. They have bits on the front to attach door hinges, and a magnet to hold the door closed, otherwise they are like an ordinary machine.

So if you want to have an integrated machine in 2-3 years, why not get it now? If it is a Bosch it will last for ages. Only problem is they do cost more, but is that not preferable to buying twice?

Thanks, we've just orderded a Bosch Classicxx, there's a possibility that it will fit removing the legs, or lowering to the minimum, but if it doesn't the replacement worktop from Bosch is £35, and it will fit no problem. I think the gap is 84.3, although it's difficult to measure it with so much accuracy, and I don't want to take any risks.

We'll keep the top in case we need it in the future.

The dishwasher we've bought is a Beko, as the top can be removed and it does not need a replacement.
