Help pleaseeee

Hi there, I ve been looking to purchase a new net book for a while now and ive looked at so many im completely foxed as to which would be the best deal for me. At the moment i have an acer aspire one which came with linux but i had changed to windows xp. My problem with this hence my wanting another one is because its very slow and this could be the problem ive been told and its only 250 ram (?). Ive done a defrag etc but still no better. Dont know how to post logs etc.
If any kind person has a bit of time on their hands lol would they please have a quick look on the Tesco website and tell me what their choice would be. I have just over £200 of club card vouchers which i could double up to purchase one but that offer runs out in 3 days time  Sorry its so long but wanted to explain all. Thank you

yes the ram will not be helping as ideally xp should have 512mb ram or more,

can i ask a silly question what was it about linux you didnt like? if i am right your problem might be down to the acer's comign with linpus lite which really is poo,

i would, if you dont need any specific windows programs, suggest looking at putting Lubuntu on the laptop, this is because which has very low system requirements but all the benifits of the ubuntu family, i use it on my old laptop and its base ram usage is under 80mb only just over 100mb with google chrome running

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

thats fair enough, however just going with saving money trying one of the low requirement Linux distros would of course be the cheapest,

the next would be to put some more RAM in your current netbook, which is massively easy to do yourself, however if you take it to a local computer shop i would not expect them to charge much to install it for you

then of course buying a new system, so as above, is there a reason why you want a netbook over a laptop?

Well just for convenience really and of course when i travel with it plus i like to use it when in bed :D and watch the tv at the same time. I know you can with laptops but they are heavier on my knee. Silly reason i suppose but it does factor in my suitability requirements. I didn t realise that laptops were quicker anyway though. See i dont know much ...:rotfl:

You run the program, which produces a log file (text). Select all the text in the log, right click to copy and paste into this thread. It works.
Re the original problem-just put in some more RAM-XP needs 512MB minimum to be workable.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    Scan, open the log.

    Control A
    Control C

then control V to paste on the forum

Also post your commit charge, and peak commit from task manager, performance, and confirm your physical memory total

and switch your virus scanner to avast, it's lighter on ram than the rest.

Netbooks don't differ that greatly in terms of performance - most have a ~1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU and 512MB or 1024MB RAM, so you probably wouldn't gain much by buying another one. If you've only got 256MB, the easiest and cheapest way to improve performance is to buy more memory. 1GB would be ideal.

I bought an Asus EEE 901 a few months ago and the OS (based on Xandros) was a nightmare to use. So I installed XP which was much more reliable, but not particularly nippy, and tediously, agonisingly slow to download and update anti-malware software. I installed Arch Linux a few weeks ago and wonder why it wasn't the first OS I tried - it's fast, reliable, requires no anti-malware software, and other software can very easily be installed with the package manager.

Arch isn't really designed to be installed or configured by non-techies, but you can follow the instructions on the Arch wiki site (or can find a geek to set it up for you). Once it's set up, it's pretty easy to use and maintain...
