morrisons car park fine?

hi all
i have been issued with a £70 parking fine for morrisons in loughton, £40 if i pay within the next 14days.
i did go over the 2 hrs limit, but only cos i was shopping in the store and having lunch etc (not in the store but i DID spend money in the store shopping there)
am i still liable for the charge ?
i have read various posts on here but i couldnt find anything recently so wanted to check it was still the same - the general rule of thumb seemed to be to ignore them, that they may write me a few threatening letters but that they wont actually end up taking me to court, is that still the case?
thanks all

You couldn't find anything recently? The whole first page of threads is from today or yesterday, I guess you looked at random threads and not the whole board view:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=163
Start reading at the top, with the stickies. The two threads by Crabman will give you all the info and links you need to know that you MUST ignore this scam. Reading more threads below it will show you how common the scam is and that everyone is ignoring the debt collector letters and has looked at the Watchdog link. See the letters for yourself and learn from the Watchdog legal adviser, it's all there on that page alone and it's ALL current!

thanks, yes i did have a look but new to the forum world lol, so maybe i missed some, i did see some threads about private parking, just not specfically for a morrisons one, so just wanted to make sure the info that came up on google was correct.
so i should expect more then one threatening letter, but that they wont actually take me to court and ignore it?
thanks againCoupon-mad wrote: »You couldn't find anything recently? The whole first page of threads is from today or yesterday, I guess you looked at random threads and not the whole board view:

Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -

Yes, all the letters are there in pictures on Crabman's top thread on the link I gave. Please look at the threats now so the bold font and scary words don't make you wobble when the letters actually arrive. Forewarned is forearmed.
They won;t take you to Court, they lie.
Yes, IGNORE them. Been there, done that, it's fine (in fact, it's NOT a fine...).PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Can't believe how many regular, long term MSEers don't realise that PPC bogus tickets are not enforceable and are just a scam; bigblackdog you need to read up on this board a bit more.
Never write except to complain to a retailer for allowing a bunch of scammers to harass customers in the car park. Complaining to retailers will get PPCs chucked out, never to darken the doorways again with their protection racket.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Just a quick thought, how did the company get hold of the exact time I entered and left the car park? I take it they have cameras recording the info etc?
I just assumed that morrisons employed a company to keep check on the people that went over the 2 hour limit.
I'm so glad I googled this before I went ahead and paid it, you have all been so helpful, thank you0 -

They may pictures of the car but they won' be able to identify the actual driver. That is unless they have a picture database of everyone in the country. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0
