message from Bt is it a scam.

This message along with the bt logo and symbols keeps appearing on my pc. Has anyone else had it and is it genuine. Contacted Bt and they didn't have a clue. Tried to get a number to call but that proved fruitless. Would love to hear from anyone with knowledge of this please.
I was unable this morning to connect but putting the network key back in solved it. Just had the message again and no problem with connection. Have concerns if this is a scam that someone else might fall for it.

Can't connect to broadband

There seems to be a problem with your Broadband connection.
The physical connection to your line seems to be okay, but your Hub can't connect to broadband.

Might not be - some routers do that. I know 2Wire hubs do, as do Thompson routers, which BT Home Hubs are based on. Then again, it could easily be fake.

It depends where the clickable link points to.

I wasn't going to take the risk. Since we are always told if it's not personalised then don't do it. thanks for the thoughts.
  • It is genuine and the message is being generated by your home hub when it loses the connection. If it is happening repeatedly, the only thing to really be concerned about is why it keeps disconnecting from the broadband.

If you look at the browser address bar, the address should start http://192.168.1.254

Broadband connections are done in 3 stages, your PC to your modem, modem to exchange, exchange to provider.

If your PC is connected to the modem, then you will probably have a connect icon, if your modem is connected to exchange, the modem pages will tell you the connection rate, if the exchange has a valid connection to your IP then you will have an IP address (check at www.whatismyip.com)

So you need all three to surf, if item 2 and or 3 are not valid then some modems will give you the type of message you have seen.

The continue button will probably do some diagnostic tests the Thomson modems can do this.
