No - it is not a US site, although the prize is in Dollars.

It was posted on here last month and the month before by Reniannen

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2831628

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2793826

after it was previously posted and removed for self promotion.

You will see if you read through the thread that there was an incident when an email was sent out to people that had joined the site and the people it was sent to were CC'd in on the email rather than BCC. On this basis, I would say that it is up to individuals if they choose to join the site. However, last month, it gave a few of us MSE'rs a lot of fun testing our brains out trying to solve the puzzle, so on this basis, I for one hope that you do not remove it.
  • Woot. Cheers Marg.

Just finish off wasting today on advents, then will waste the rest of this week on this :j:D

I don't know why it's in Dollars but the site is registered to an address in Leeds -
    http://whois.domaintools.com/treasurehuntcash.com

There's been no reports of spam from the site that I'm aware of, although as Marg says there was an issue with an email with other people CC'd in.

I don't know if I'll be looking at this yet, my eyes are screwed up enough trying to keep on top of advents :D

OK, so who's an expert on where Santa lives? Is it Lapland? The North Pole or where?

I was thinking perhaps Saint Nicholas?
Could be relating to his tomb?

    "
The Church of St. Nicholas in ancient Myra (modern Kale or Demre) is a ruined Byzantine church containing the tomb of St. Nicholas of Myra (the inspiration for Santa Claus), as well as many fine mosaics and murals."

    Just a thought anyway!

My dead end so far is - I was looking at what is "further down" from that area and there is Helsinki. Was hoping that the translation would be "heels edge", but can't seem to find any literal translation for it. Just looking at other places round there to see if anything jumps out.

I was looking at places either South of Lapland, the North Pole (difficult really, as where is there that is not South of the North Pole?) or now after robbyp33 's inspired idea, South of Myra, hoping to find somewhere that was an anagram of heel's edge. I've drawn a blank so far.

I've ended up getting quite a wee bit, I've put spoiler tags round but I'm too tired just now to mess with formatting and the links are relevant so please don't scroll down if you don't want to see my working!

I think this might be the right way of thinking but the tomb in Myra is empty and according to Wikipedia his relics were moved to Bari in Italy in the 11th century where they remain today.
Bari is in the south of Italy close the the 'heel' of it's boot shape which makes me think I'm on the right track.

    ...

south of Bari at the edge of the heel is Brindisi
It was connected with Rome by the Via Appia and the Via Traiana. The termination of the Via Appia, at the water's edge, was formerly flanked by two fine pillars. Only one remains, the second having been misappropriated and removed to the neighbouring town of Lecce.
    Twin towns - Sister cities

    Brindisi is twinned with:
I think the next clue refers to Lushnje which was briefly the provisional capital of Albania before Tirana. Tirana is an anagram of 'a train'

    Famous Norman = Norman Wisdom?
and there's a stained glass window in St Paul's Cathedral, Tirana which commemorates Mother Teresa who was born in Albania.

Mother Teresa is an anagram of 'a theme resort'

She worked in Calcutta for most of her life. After that I'm struggling.
She received an honorary order of merit in 1983 which depicts a crown surrounded by a laurel wreath, but no one was awarded one in 1982 according to wikipedia
Or it could refer to her being a nobel laureate. She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. But there was 2 joint winners in 1978 (source) and since we end at a 'pub' I get the impression it probably ends in Britain again.

My brain's switching off, It's probably staring me in the face :rotfl:
