File Sharing Help

Here I go I am tearing my hair out at this moment!
I have a pc connected directly to phone line with netgear router etc. My laptop is wireless connects fine to the net via pc but I cannot share files at all.
My laptop can see the pc in laptop my network. but when i am on pc,click my network there is nothing in that folder, i click on view workgroup computers and get this silly message saying that i don't have access, exactly the same happens when i go on2 the laptop click on my network, click view work group it finds both the laptop and the pc but when i click on the pc folder it says exactly the same -you do not have authorisation n some other crap with it.
I am slowly loosing it with this and they will be both out of the window in the near future.....
Hope someone can make sense of all this!!!

PS-I have had a good look around on MSE and also other sites and still have no answers. What am I doing wrong?

Have you enabled file and print sharing as a firewall exception, and shared the c: drive (right click in explorer, sharing).

PS..If you haven't encrypted your router...

Make sure all the PCs are in the same workgroup (it's on the system icon in control panel)

Turn off your firewalls in case they've firewalled port 139.

Make sure 'simple file sharing' is selected (go to an explorer window, choose preferences (i think) and it's one of the options.

    Reboot and try again.

Never share a main drive ie C:

Is both pcs running the same service pack and updates , then have you run the home network settings wizard.

You may need to manually set up firewall , hardware and software , for each ip adress rather than realying on it being automaticly done. Then you need to setup preferences to each pc.

I suggest you list your os , software used , and check for newset firmware for your router.

If you don't share it, it won't be shared?!

  • And NEVER turn off your firewall.

With firewalls set it up to allow from a network range. such as 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.110.
