If you won the lottery and became a millionaire...

...would you be tempted to come on these boards, look for the cases that have tugged on your heart strings and offer to pay some people's debts off?

This is purely hypothetical by the way, and I'm not rich or offering to pay off anyone's debts before you ask :D

I'd be more inclined to make a donation to the CCCS thereby helping more people in the long run ;)
My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.

I'd buy myself a house, car and get myself back into education and study for a degree.

Depending on how much I'd won :D.

I'm sure if it was only a million by the time I'd cleared our debts, and then done the rounds with the family and close friends there probably wouldn't be much left , but I'd like to think I would be able to help someone else out, I know I have read a few threads on here that have pulled at the old heart strings.

No definately not to strangers whose story is on a forum. Although the vast majority are truthful, you can't be absolutely certain your money is going to a deserving home

Would definately give to charities though and to friends/family espec if I knew they were hard up

Harsh as this may sound but NO I wouldn't.:(

After a long DFW journey of my own I truly believe that the process of getting yourself debt free and the hardships that you suffer along the way, and the thought process of how to spend your money is the only CURE (for want of a better word).

In order to stay debt free, you need to actually go through the whole process to learn from it and change your spending habits.

I can now say after nearly seven years that my money saving ways are now well and truly ingrained and I actually struggle to spend money willy nilly.

If someone had come along and just paid of my debts, I would not have learnt anything, and would probably have fallen back to my old ways:o.

Sorry if this a bit rough but is my opinion (feel free to shoot me down in flames):rotfl:.

That's not say that I wouldn't make a donation to the CCCS who have helped us to manage our DMP and provided the crutch on our journey.

  • Absolutely not! Family and friends, and perhaps even neighbours, would come first, then probably charity (provided I could be sure they didn't waste too much money on administration). Like many others, I strongly suspect that at least some of the posts on these forums (fora?) are bogus and as I don 't know which they are I wouldn't want to risk it. I wouldn't expect them to give me money.

Although as I don't do the pools and haven't bought a lottery ticket for ages the whole point is hypothetical anyway! :D

  • I would probably have a stroke with shock as it would be a blinking mirace seeing as I don't buy a ticket :rotfl:
