plusnet

just for anybody's information we have been with plusnet for years and have just left them as the download speed was so slow and we hardly had any internet connection at night - we had to reset it all the time and some nights it did not work at all which wasn't very good for my children who were trying to access internet for homework. We have moved to sky and although it is more expensive it is so reliable, not had any problems at all-can't believe we put up with the poor internet plusnet provided us with - it may have been cheaper but it was not good

Agree completely jellee. We are students and are only here for 6 more months so we'll put up with it, but it's definately the worst internet i've come across in recent years. May be cheaper but for a few extra £ its not worth the hassle!

Depends on what your internet usage is.
If you want to do big downloads and peer to peer (bit torrent) then Plusnet is not for you. They restrict this big time. For just web browsing and emails, Plusnet value is great. I don't have any problems with Plusnet.

I've been with Plusnet for 2 years now and overall I'd say they're an excellent ISP. I always get decent speeds and what downtime there is, gets explained in the Members' Centre.

This will kill your speed. Unfortunately plusnet requires a good constant connection (less than 1 reset a day) to get a decent IP Profile from BT, which is then used to get your "speed".

Resetting makes BT beleive the line is "unstable", BT lower the profile to try to get the line "stable", Plusnet match that lower profile, your speed reduces.

I personnally don't like plusnet, CS there could do with a good kick sometimes to get them to do things, the 72 hour SLA is often missed, and 30 minute hold to report a fault is bad (although its a free call)

That goes for all of them
+ Cheap price often means poor CS .

  • We've had Plusnet for around 18 months now and its really been very good, including a house move where they got the reconnection right on the promised day, too. I did upgrade to the more expensive package quite early on as we were using a lot of Internet radio at one time and the cheap package started to go over limits - I was never charged for this, but did get an email from them telling me I had reached my package limits, when I decided to go for the more expensive package.
The connection is extremely stable - hardly ever needs resetting, unlike the dreadful Tiscali/TalkTalk one it replaced!!
  • Plusnet is just a marketing identity for BT - it's been wholly owned by them since late 2006.

(google search for 'BT buys Plusnet' - they purchased the company to obtain the CRM platform.)

I regard the recent spate of TV adverts as misleading at best and I suspect it's a cynical way of obfuscating that you're buying service from BT.

(This is similar to "AOL Europe" being registered in Lichtenstein to obscure that it's actually TalkTalk.)

It's wholly owned by BT, but still run independently with it's own management team and systems.
