I want to terminate my contract with o2

I was recently looking to replace my PAYG Nokia to a PAYG Blackberry in the phones 4 U shop.I told the sales adviser I was on Text appeal with T mobile and I do text Europe & the U.S to which he told me I would be better off getting a contract.

I was informed o2 was offering a free Blackberry,500 Minutes, Unlimited Texts & 500MB all for £25.I accepted the offer but later noticed an extra charge of £5 on top of my £25 a month bill.I called o2 and asked them about this they said it had to do with me texting Europe.

I'm aware it's partly my fault for not reading the fine print on my contract carefully but I feel that the adviser at Phones 4 U should have mentioned the unlimited texts was UK based only considering I told him I text abroad.

I have contacted o2 who have told me I should deal with Phones 4 U because I got the mobile with them.Phones 4 U have said they would consider buying me out of my contract if I take out another contract with them this doesn't make sense because I would still not text abroad without extra charges.

Would anybody have any suggestions at all because I am stuck with a 24 month Contract that I am extremely unhappy with. The other option would be to pay off over £600 in fees which is really expensive.

Many Thanks

sorry to be blunt but why do people NEVER read the t&c when they take out a phone anyfool knows that the text and talk bundles you get only work in this country unless it says otherwise

the only way you can get out of the contract now is to pay off the remaining months

Did they tell you specifically that your free minutes were UK calls only? Or did you think you could use the free minutes to call abroad?

That's what you get for buying from these clowns...

    When will people learn?
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂
  • Harsh critics but was I expecting this...
I haven't had a contract this is the first one. Maybe I shouldn't have shared this with the sales advisor which could have stopped him from withholding more information.
I was extremely happy to stay with a PAYG until the sales man mentioned I would save more by getting a contract make more calls & unlimited texts.
I assumed the texts to Europe were included on the existing tariff as long as I didn’t go over the 500 Mins. I guess having something for the first time without enough knowledge comes with a price

Don't be too harsh on yourself. We all have to learn from experience.

I stand to be corrected, but I don't think any network gives overseas texts in their standard bundles, and you do have lots of free minutes and texts for your UK based friends.

One you can find out what Europe texts cost on other networks . Two try to come to a better deal with the supplier of the phone . Three stick with the contract and look at a bolt on for Europe texts . Four buy yourself out of the existing contract and start with a clean slate . Bearing in mind that UK networks charge extra for foreign connections just as BT do . jje

Unfortunately you can't void a contract because you assumed something was included. If you could all contracts would be worthless.

Had you asked and been told yes, then you'd have a case for mis-selling. But no contract includes texts outside the UK. You'll either have to pay off the contract or get a overseas text addon (if they do them).
  • Thank you so much for your suggestions...Will look to see if I can get a bolt on for the texts. Will contact o2 to see what they currrently have

Sounds like you already have a bolt on?
