Advice please

Have had a large conservatory built this summer and am now considering how to heat it efficiently but as cheap as poss. We were going to have a radiator installed which would be linked to our present gas central heating system but have just asked the advice of a BG engineer who came to service our heating and he said it may be a good idea to buy a good oil filled radiator. What does everyone think please? TIA

    Air Source Heat Pump (Inverter)

We have a 5x5m Edwardian conservatory and have a 6.3kW ASHP. It can make the conservatory very useable during winter and summer.

Last Christmas, put it on full fan power for 20minutes before family arrived and then ultra low fan during the rest of the day - very quite, nobody noticed it.
During the summer when internal temps reach 40C, run for 20minutes nice comfortably cooler.

Cost about £1400 plus 5% VAT. Had to get the electrics sorted before the installers arrived, but very clean and tidy process.
We could have gone for a 5.1kW unit for a £100 or so less, but did not want the unit to "struggle". Invited a local company around and they size the room and proposed a unit. We went for a Mitsubushi Heavy Industries SRK63-ZE Wall Mounted unit. You will need space for the outside unit, and if the conservatory is large then the outside unit can be relatively large to cope.

Because the only cost is running a pump and fan there is no heating element costs, we have not noticed a signifacant increase in electrical cost.

    Regards,
    John

Thank you this looks ideal but is more than we can afford at the moment, it maybe something for us to think about in the future though but dont want to borrow at the mo.

    Any further suggestions anyone please?

Any radiators fitted in the conservatory must be on their own timed zone with their own thermostat in the conservatory.

They cannot just simply be connected to existing radiators nearby.

This makes the job a lot more expensive.

Heat a conservatory? Ouch. I'd strongly advise against it. From findaproperty.com/displaystory.aspx?edid=00&salerent=0&storyid=22348)

"It’s impossible to efficiently insulate a mostly glazed building, and if you fit a heater you may as well leave the door open because your hot air will quickly escape into the garden anyway."

Not really, a valve with a programmerable thermostat doesn't (shouldn't) cost much. I'd use UFH though with it's on controls and lower water temps.
