Apple TV vs New Sony Internet TV?

Im contemplating Apple TV but am just weighing up the benfits of this after ordering a new Sony Bravia Internet TV
The Sony TV has a Wi-Fi dongle (just bought one) to connect to the internet to play Youtube, BBC iPlayer etc..
We had to change our TV so am still wondering if Apple TV would be a good buy?
I know AppleTV has the benefit of 'renting movies' but apart from that, are there too many similarities with an Internet Ready TV?
I genuinely don't know whether to still buy this?
Any thoughts would be gratefully appreciated.

AppleTV can stream stuff from iTunes on another computer on your network, that's what I bought one for. You'd want to check the cost of renting movies, and I'd also suggest that if you have a PS3 (or to a lesser extent an XBox360, then you've got most of what AppleTV can do covered.0

Ok thanks, but no I dont have any Xbox or games console (not my thing):)0

You can 'rent' movies on your Sony internet ready TV through Love Film and another provider. In addition you can stream most media on your PC to the Sony.0

I don't have appletv, but do have
- Samsung TV with internet@tv (iplayer, lovefilm& others)
- Sony BDP-S370 with Bravia internet (iplayer, 5od, lovefilm etc)
So both can be used for iplayer, lovefilm streaming (min £10 pcm), also skyhd, a variety of other streaming sources, and can stream from my home computers using "DNLA" - I've used this to watch downloaded programs.
All in I can't see what appletv would add at this point
Oh do make sure you have a unlimited/high limit (100s Gb) on your broadband service otherwise you can get yourself in trouble! What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0 -
I have a Sony Bravia with IPTV.
To be honest Apple TV isn't getting many 'must have' reviews at the moment.
The Bravia will give you the same ability to watch movies via two methods:
1) LoveFilm, which gives you access to a subset of their full DVD catalogue online if you sign up to a DVD Rental plan with a monthly subscription, or:
2) Qriocity, a new service where you can watch Sony Pictures movies (in SD or HD) on demand. You only pay for the movies you watch. They have an offer that I just recieved today that the first 7500 people who create an account and enable their device will get a £15 voucher code (wish I had received this before I created an account
).
Most of the other features of Apple TV are already in the Bravia - e.g. the ability to stream music & video and look at pictures from your home network (e.g. any PC running Windows 7 or Vista), watch Youtube videos etc. And it additionally has BBC iPlayer, Demand Five and various other free IPTV services.
Looking through the Apple TV spec there is honestly nothing I can see sufficiently different from the Bravia services to make it worthwhile buying. It may have a better movie choice than Qriocity possibly?
Strongly suggest that you explore the Bravias services before you consider getting Apple TV as well.0
