flight delay question

My Mum is currently stranded at Gatwick airport, I dropped her off this morning at 6am (I live near Birmingham), we checked Gatwick's departures online before we left which said her flight was schedueled so we figured that meant it was on time.

As I was arriving home I heard from my sister that my Mum had called and told her there would be no flights until tomorrow morning at the earliest...she also said there were no hotels within a 40 mile radius, so it doesn't sound like the airline are doing much for her.

I can't risk driving down again to pick her up as the roads are treacherous...especially the M25. Can anyone offer any advice? Are the airline obliged to find her a place to stay?
