Hi today I was completing some work on excel (with the help of your kind advice), when my screen froze for 15 minutes.
Nothing was happening and even task manager wouldn't come up for me to close things down so I switched laptop off via button.
I then turned it back on and it kept staying in hibernation.
I then turned it back off and after about 10 minutes it turned on and went onto desktop page. To my horror all my documents have dissapeared. There isn't any word, excel and just what looks like to me the basic factory settings.
Please help me, I have done alot of work over the past couple of days and it has vanished.
I am scared to turn my computer off again in case it doesn't open.
I am desperate to find my work, thats what I really need
Thanks in advance.

You saved your documents to the desktop?
Do a search for the document name. It may find the originals or a backup copy.
If you're just referring to the shortcut icons, just run the program from the start menu...0 -

Hi Hammyman I have done a search and can find the document.:j
My only problem is that excel and word has dissappeared therefore I cannot open it.
I do not have the disks as these were added by my PC hospital when they destroyed my original PC in error and then as compensation added Office 2007 to my laptop.
They will need to take my Pc in again for several days to find out whats wrong and if necessary add office 2007 again and I really need to have a copy of my work today.
Therefore is there anyway from the search I can save the document onto my memory stick, and if so how do I do it?
Also is there anyway I can restore my office 2007.
Thanks in advance :AMortgage Feb 2015 £178,500 END 2043!!

The drive or network that the shortcut refers to is unavailable. Make sure the disk is properly inserted or the network rescource is available, then try again.Mortgage Feb 2015 £178,500 END 2043!!

..and for this, they screwed you up last time and 'gave' you an install of Office 2007 with no back-up discs....?
You need to find someone else or teach yourself what to do. There's loads of information out there - specialised PC forums, specialised OS forums, specialised Microsoft forums. YouTube videos, etc0
