O2 retention

I bought a mobile phone on contract for DD1 this time last year as I reckoned that £30 a month for 200 minutes and 200 texts would be better than her PAYG. I got the phone on O2 from Boots phones and got 28,000 advantage points with which I was delighted - the contract is in my name. Well, being 16 she has now broken the handset and has consistently gone over her minutes throughout the year by about £5 a month. I rang O2 to say that I was at the end of the 12 months and that I was thinking of changing to Vodafone as I could get half price line rental from them for 6 months and more minutes and texts and they said that, based upon her usage, they could offer me a retention tarriff of 100 minutes and 100 texts for £15 a months. I said that I could get better than this so they said to write in and cancel. I was really disappointed as others on here seem to get offered really good deals when they threaten to cancel! Where did I go wrong?

They just seem to have not as much interest in keeping us tightwads this year :)

I have cancelled 2 contracts with them this month, and will take out 2 new contracts.

Don't bother writing in though, just ask them for a PAC code which allows you to transfer your number to your new contract, and also serves as the start of your 30 day notice period.

    Cheers, Des.

I got 500 off peak minutes and 500 texts for £15/month just a couple of weeks ago. I've been a customer for about 8 years so maybe that's why?

I got 200 xnet mins and 500 txts for £15p/m. I guess you have to be really willing to cancel to get the "best" deals and take the retention team to the limit. Not heard of writining in to cancel though, surely they could do it there and then ? Maybe they're calling your bluff ?

Get you spirits up and try agian ;)

    Another thing to consider :

My wifes contract has expired and a upgrade due on vodafone. I did the duties for her and they couldn't offer anything that I resembled to be a good offfer to keep my custom. I promptly asked to cancel the contract and only a slightly better deal was offered. I continued to proceed with the cancellation and asked for my PAC, which is now being sent out.

Today however I get a call from "head office" offering me a very similar deal to my o2 contract and a free phone of my choice.

This confirms for me that they certainly don't want to be losing customers at all which should go for all networks.
