BT Direct Debit Monthly Payments Have Shot Up

I was paying £40 a month and now they have increased it to £59 a month. I'm on BT broadband option 3. "This is the cost of your Broadband at £22.99 a month, charged in advance from 9 Nov 2010 to 8 Feb 2011. Includes unlimited download allowance, online security and 24/7 support"

If it says £22.99 a month then how come i'm being charged £59 a month or even the £40 I was being charged? For my calls I use the 1899 prefix or phone after 7pm.

What about your line rental of £13.04 pm on top of that, plus any call package that you have with BT?
I suggest you look at your itemised bill, as it seems you are making quite a few exclusive calls on top of your inclusive calls or override calls.
But why don't you just switch to Whole Bill Monthly DD, then you only pay for exactly what you are using each month?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

For my latest bill I used £5.32 in calls
    BT Total Broadband Option 3 for 9 Nov-8 Feb 11 = £ 68.97 = for total line rental £ 109.47

It only gives me an option of Whole Bill DD and not Whole Bill Monthly DD.

That's the one you want then.
If you re paying £5.32 pm in call charges to landlines then you would be better off on the Unltd Anytime tariff for £4.99, that would also cover all the calls you currently make visa your override provider.
Can't advise further on your bill without a full breakdown of what you are actually being charged per month, i.e. broadband, line rental and call package, plus any extras.

You still owed about £19 on your previous quarterly bill.

Your line rental (incl. free E&W calls plan) is about £13/month (£39/quarter)
Your broadband rental (Option 3) is about £23/month (£69/quarter)
VAT is about £20 over the quarter.

Hence, you now owe about £147 and £40/month payments will not cover that over the coming quarter. In fact, at the end of the quarter, you'll owe at least £27.

Hence, they've put your payment up so that you catch up and, like the rest of us, start paying in advance.

As has already been suggested, change to Monthly Whole Bill Direct Debit.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

You seem to be carrying quite a large defecit which will amount for the high monthly payment as you will be paying that off.

Thanks Heinz, I am told that I will have to pay £71 within 10 days of setting up Whole Bill DD. So after that what will be my monthly payments?

Once any arrears are paid, the total monthly advance charges (about £42.66 on Heinz's figures), plus any additional call charges for the previous month.
So you will never accumulate any arrears.

I have Sky HD so would it be better to get Sky's broadband and calls for £7.99 a month?
