You'd be surprised. Most university law schools run free advisory services manned by Law students so they can get practical experience. Here's a link to the one in Liverpool http://www.liv.ac.uk/law/clinic/0 -

Also a lot harder to prove when the "uninsured" car is a 2002 Peugeot 206 rather than a barried 1993 Impreza WRX import with a huge fart cannon on the back and rusty wheelarches.0

Hi
My dads car didnt need to be taxed as we bought the car the same month as i was driving it. It had 6 months tax on it.
My dad was just waiting to sell his other car then would have insured the peugeot afterwards but he never got the chance. Ive just got off the phone to Quinn and told them about their T&C's and that it doesnt mention the other car has to be insured and basically theyve fobbed me off telling me call whoever you want. I think theyve had cases like this before. Currently im phoning the ombudsman to see what they say.0 -
Ive just got off the phone to the financial ombudsman and theyve told me that they've filed a complaint and that Quinn have 8 weeks to reply. Is there anything else to do. Ive sent a letter to Quinn that i want a reply within 7 days otherwise im going to take legal action and ive sent them printouts of their t&c's.
Ive got a feeling Quinn are going to just drag this out and ill end up going to court alone0 -
Quinn are a law unto themselves, when they realise they will lose a complaint / it will cost them money they will cave in.
See a couple of cases MSE members have helped out on that involve Quinn https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1887019

please help me with my letter so far ive done thisOFFICIAL COMPLAINTPolicy number: GED/QMP000007
This is a letter concerning my accident on the 19th June 2009 whilst I was driving my father’s car with the registration 00000.
You originally took my claim on but quite a few months on told me that I was not covered, even though you carried out an assessment of my car and paid me visits to my residence. This was because the car I was driving using my 3rd party extension did not have its own insurance.
I have taken legal advice on this matter and refer to policy wording on Page 8 of your T&C’s, this can be viewed online www/rrand I also have this booklet to hand as it was given to me with my policy. Other insurance company have the ‘other car must be insured’ written into their T&C’s.
Nowhere in the Certificate of motor insurance or in the policy booklet (T&C’s) does it say that the other car has to been insured to be driven using the extension from my policy.
Previous phone calls before and after I bought my policy confirmed coverage several times.
I am demanding that you represent me in court for this case, if not I will be seeking full consequential damages from you as a result of your breach of contract and that will issue court proceedings against you within 7 days if no reply is received within 7 days. Also if do not receive complete satisfaction of my request i will referring the matter to the financial ombudsman.0 -
Sod all to do with the thread but just found this posted.
From 1st.January 2011,if there is no record on the MID (motor insurance Database) showing a vehicle is insured, which has not been declared as off road by a Sorn, the registered keeper will recieve a warning letter advising of a fine, prosecution,or clamping.
All vehicles that are not registered by SORN -even if they are not being used are included.
Vehicles that are Sorn registered remain unaffected, and there remains no requirements to insure the vehicle.

Remove your policy number from the version of this letter posted on this forum you muppet.
You don't want to make their lives any easier by making this thread easier to find.
Also the like to quinn's website seems to be mangled, however I would suggest rather than saying "can be viewed at www.blahblah" say "I have encolsed a copy of your website for your reference". Keep a few copies at home for when they change it too.0 -

Presumably you can back this up, e.g. proof of an advert of your dad's other car up for sale before you had the accident? Again, not for us - it doesn't matter what we think - but you might need this.
Might also help if you had proof that you'd been driving your own car as your main car during this time. Can you think of anything?
I think that anything that will help show that this was a legitimate use of the "driving other cars" cover will be very useful.
And I presume that there is a typo in your post above and you meant "he" rather than "we". I really do hope that you didn't contribute to the purchase of the new car. I hope that there's nothing that might look like it links you to it, such as a cheque, bank transfer or large cash withdrawal at the time.
If all is still ok with this I suggest you try your insurance company one more time and tell them this. They might be assuming, as others on here have, that you were driving it as your main car and that the policy would be invalidated.0
