forgot about that - we flew Continental via Newar to ORlando last year - they get snow in Newark, and it really disrupts them, but they were really poor when it came to customer service. Only a day lost on the way out, but got to the airport 7am on 3rd January and arrived home quarter to midnight on the 5th via Frankfury and London city instead of straight to Edinburgh.

I'd not choose Continental again, even if it was all expenses paid.;)

  • If you do fly through another US airport try and make sure it is a southerly one as you might get stuck in the likes of Chicago, Washington etc with weather! (Thats assuming you can depart the UK with weather).

There are benefits of changing planes in the US though...we used to be fans of flying direct from the UK...but the last few trips we have flown with a connection (in Chicago, which I agree should be avoided at Christmas due to potential adverse weather conditions).

Yes, you do have to collect and recheck your bags - but the recheck area is on your way out...it's not like you have to go to a check-in desk again. You also clear immigration then, and then when you arrive in Vegas it is a much quicker get-away.

One other thing we like - we have started flying American, and if you select the right transatlantic flight, both sides of the plane have pairs of seats -so if just two of you, much nicer experience than having a random stranger (or 3) in the row with you.

So long as you leave plenty of time for your connection, it can be nice to get off the plane for a bit.

We've done it both ways and there are benefits to each...just depends on personal preference.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?
