flying is always a good start....

seriously though, have a hunt through the forum till you see the "overseas travel " section, there's a sticky at the top with everything LAs Vegas in it...

been there, done that, bought the T shirt... great place to go for a holiday, I'd recommend adding on a side trip to San Francisco too , if he likes 60s 70s music then he might like the laid back feel of San Francisco too ( Alcatraz is a must, the Golden Gate bridge is like a red version of the Forth Road bridge though, just a little bigger:o)

You can fly from Glasgow to Vegas with just one change in London for about £600, check www.kayak.co.uk for a comparison of all flights by all airlines.

A few fellow Scots in the midst, even.

If you want specific hotel advice, generally good to give us an idea what you are after, price range, etc. Pools are not a factor in December, but knowing what sort of things are important can help narrow down the options for you.

Remember that Vegas gets very expensive the closer you get to NYE, so if you can plan your trip to leave before hotel prices ramp up you can get some great deals.

Discounts for Love can be found various places, including:

    It's an excellent show.

I would hesitate in using TA's rankings though...they're a bit weird...having been to Vegas nearly 20 times, I'm consistently surprised at what turns up in their top 10. Staybridge Suites? Really? :)

Some have relatively few reviews, but mostly good and rank quite high..but are not really all that Vegassy.

Virgin will be flying direct from Manchester next year, depends if that is easier than indirect from Scottish airports. US based airlines that fly to Scottish airports may also offer a stopover in another US city.

I went n stayed at the Stratosphere hotel at the north end of the strip, cause its a bit more outta the hustle its slightly cheaper, but with the monorail just across the road was easy enough to go up n down the strip. We paid a mere 22 quid a night for the room.

The period up to and around Christmas is one of, if not the cheapest times of the year to stay in Vegas...worth looking into options booking direct with the hotels as well as through 3rd parties to see where the best rates are.

Some mid-strip rooms are available from $20/night Sun-Thurs in December...not posh, but good location at least...for $50/night you can get something quite a lot nicer...for $100/night, even nicer still...of course. :)

In general Vegas rooms are very good value if you avoid the particularly popular times.

Whatever you do DON'T fly via another US airport as then you'll have to go through the whole circus of US connecting flights which apart from immigration checks will also require you to collect & recheck your luggage - then you have the joy of the ritual humiliation of US security which these days includes sexual molestation.
