This just happened to my daughter, her insurance is due end of December too, and her insurance has doubled, she has had no claims, she asked why and was told the same, all insurances are going up.
When you think about it they have you cornered really, to be legal you need insurance so they charge what they like.
Not all,
Mine got cheaper,
one thing that changed was I went from 5 kmiles per year to 10k.
An at fault claim on another policy went to 5 years old from 4 so that might have helped as well.0 -
As others have said, fully comp is ofter cheaper these days. TPFT is for chavs driving around in bangers who don't care about crashing their car, and thus is priced accordingly.
Other than that, just follow the handy car insurance guide on this very site and hope for the best.0 -
excuse me i drive round in a banger and im not a chav - i have always had old cars becuase they are better and its economical as its like recycling unlike the scrappage scheme which was the biggest scam going
i think you find chavs tend to have nicer cars now adays0 -

Ok maybe I should have added "in the eyes of the insurance companies" to that sentence.
FWIW, before I got this company car, I had a £400 Volvo 940 on an L plate for pretty much the same reasons you state. Was still cheaper to insure it fully comp though.0 -
I've recently left Direct Line after 13 years because in the last 2-3 years the premium has doubled.
They wanted £1050
I got the same level of cover for £446 from Liverpool and Victoria via Nationwide web site in the end.0 -
Saga have just sent me the renewal notice for my car insurance due at the end of December. The premium has increased by almost 50% without any change in my car or circumstances which I queried. They have come back with the explanation that my address is in a new risk category and the general increase in costs for insurance companies is a factor but they don't or can't explain the relative contribution of the two factors.
I wonder if other people are having the same experience with Saga. If so, they seem not to be the friendly face for older people that they make themselves out to be.
Disillusioned!0
