Stainless steel can rust. If there is anything (water, dirt etc) on the surface of the knife preventing oxygen getting to it, it will rust.

Well chez, it goes to show you are never to old to learn a new trick, very interesting site, although I can't say that it sunk in completely.
Will defo be not letting my good knives near my dishwasher in future.I had a plan..........its here somewhere.0
