Very.co.uk BNPL Complaint

Options

I ordered some items online through Very.co.uk last October and took advantage of the Buy Now Pay Later offer which meant I would not need to pay in full until this October. I received my statement this September and duly followed the small print which stated that if I paid in full before the October, I would not occur any interest charges. The small print said that I would need to make this payment over the phone and not over the internet and that I must state that the payment was for my BNPL purchases. If I only paid the minimum amount, I would have to pay the interest charges occurred since October 2009. Well regardless of me paying in full over the telephone, I am still incurring interest. I have made at least 4 phone calls now and all advisors have told me the same thing – The Accounts Department are experiencing a backlog of BNPL enquiries due to a shortage of staff and a note will be put on my file to remove any charges incurred. Is this really my problem? I’ve paid up and now I want the interest charge removed!
I’m dubious whether this charge will actually be removed from my account at all. I wonder how many people fall foul of the small print and don’t call to pay their BNPL purchases in full…… Very.co.uk must be on to a nice little earner…..

  • Im amazed most people dont read the small print of any deal like this. Also a note in diary to pay it.Own fault if they mess up.

Maybe very are short staffed at the moment- you may have missed it but vast parts of the county is closed with people still not at their destination from when they set off this morning

I think LATP is angry that she has paid it and yet Very are still charging her.
    Moving on up :o SPC #382 ~ £40 banked
    12k in 2016 #15. £541.91/£3000
  • Very are known for doing this to people! Many many people have complained about this before and recently there was an article in the news about them specifically! I have closed my account with them as they did exactly the same thing to me! They did in the end return the interest charged but have lost a customer and i'm sure it's not just me that has gone over it!
Keep pressuring them honey, it is up to them to sort it out. If they argue it ask them for a copy of the call recording from when you made your payment!
    Good luck x

If the only money you owe is for the BNPL product, do you still have to make payment over the phone?

i cant see why.as long as the payment is done in time then its cleared
i think the OP refers to having multiple items.if you made an online payment it would just go to the balance.not clear the BNPL item
  • Thank you for your comments so far.
Regarding the weather, I am aware of the weather conditions, lol. However, this has been going on since October when there was no snow and I was told the department was short staffed! So probably now due to the bad weather, there is only one person manning the credit department! I did put my foot down and ask for their direct line and I was told by an automated voice there would be at least a 9 minute wait!
Once the charges are removed, I certainly will be cancelling my account too!

This is what very.co.uk do not make clear. However, I did not want to risk them charging me for the interest accrued so even though all my items were purchased on BNPL, I still made the phone call to pay off my balance in full.

I just received my statement from very today and I have a bnpl that is due on this statement. It clearly states on eit that I need to pay the balance by 18/12/10 and also call to tell them it is for my bnpl items to prevent being charged interest.

Good luck. I paid in full and in good time which Very acknowledged but still charged me the interest in the next statement. Lets hope you don't get charged!
