How do I keep blueyonder email address?

I'm changing ISP from cable to sky to save some money.

Problem is I still really need my blueyonder.co.uk email address.

Any ideas how I keep this?
I was thinking some kind of forwarding email?

You can't keep it.

Please don't use an email address tied to your ISP - this is EXACTLY the problem it causes people.

Signup for a GMail (or similar) account, then you can keep it whoever your ISP is.

You may be able to use the address for a period of time that can last years but a you cannot send mail via Virgin as you have no account and b you can lose an extinct address as and when virgin decide . Not sure if virgin sell an email only service .

You can't even keep it if you switch from Virgin Cable to Virgin ADSL according to their help site, so it is unlikely to work at all.
• Why not forget this now, I know its not you wish, but you'll have to get used to it, sorry.
Think obout getting your own domain name through a web hosting company like http://www.1and1.co.uk (others available too). For around £10 per year you can choose your own domain name and this would come with 5 email account which you can access online or use as a forward to any other email account (ISP). This way you would only ever advertise you own address and access it through whichever email account you point it at (should you change ISP), or online as a web mail for as long as you hold the account open.
e.g. domain name of ilmikeb222, set up email account of m and therfore email adress of m@ilmikeb222.co.uk or whatever you chose (.org, .com, .net etc). Other option, domain name mikeb222 with address of mike@mikeb222, anything you chose for around a tenner a tear.

OK, thanks guys.

I see now how getting tied to your service providers email can cause problems.
This will cause me no end of them as all my bills and bank are tied to my email. Doh!
Oh well, I know for next time.

You may be able to switch to dialup with Virgin and keep your email dialling in with an old style modem every few months.

Even if it works, I would suggest you phase out the blueyonder one and get something like GMail or Yahoo.

Do you have a friend or family member on Virgin? If so you can move your alias (the part before @blueyonder.co.uk) to their account; this will enable you to continue using your address for as long as the other person remains a customer.

Give me a shout if you need to know how to go about this.

Note added: Sorry! As far as I can see you can no longer do this, the system won't let you add a blueyonder address to an exisiting mailbox. New aliases have to be @virginmedia.com now.

It takes 10 minutes maximum to set up a Gmail account. 2 minutes to do a group email to your address book contacts. Maybe 30 minutes to log into your online accounts and change the email address.
Maybe an hour or so in total?
Once you've done it once, you'll never have to change them again.

Guys, sorry to be a nuisance about this, but I can see I can't keep my old email address.

However, I am using outlook express with this old email account, so will I keep all the emails I have saved into my outlook exoress folder.
If not, can I transfer the whole folder to my new email account?
• I am in the process of selling my house and may be moving to a place that does not have virgin media and I might have had the same problem.

However I have opened a gmail account and have been changing all my blueyonder email address contacts to my gmail address.

I just change the email address when I log into that bank or credit card account.

You could forward each email to your other account. That is what I have done.
