Pay monthly contracts.

I've always used PAYG so I dont know very much about contracts.

Hope not a daft question, but if I order a phone and plan online, when does the contract date actually start? Is it from the date of my order or is it when I receive the phone and call Orange customer services to register it?

I recently took a contract out with o2 and it starts when the phone is connected, which is upto 48 hours after receiving the phone.
