It isn't covered in snow is it?0

Quick way to check if the dish is completely pointing the wrong way now is to just look at a neighbours house with one. They all point in the same direction.
You'll probably need someone to align it anyway. Local TV and aerial shops can probably do it for less than Sky would charge.
yes looking at the house opposite, we are now pointing another 90 degrees to the left!0 -
It's always worth checking the obvious

Maybe call the company that did it and ask them to sort it?[
I did think that, but they are a small local firm and I want to keep using them as they have the best prices for quite a way. Hubby trying to get one of those signal finders as we speak! Rather him than me up a ladder in this!0 -
The corrtect soloution is to get the problem fixed by those that broke it, they want to keep your custom, and if there is ANY damage to the dish shape its binned.
However if you are going to do it yourself, dont waste your time with a cheap sat meter, if it doesnt name the satellites how are you going to know you are on the right sat? can be a nightmare, just get a local guy to fix £45-65, job done.
Proper meters are >£200
Or use the inbuilt meter on the stb and two mobile phones, no better or worse than a cheapo meter.
Use the 28 degrees as a very rough guide you are not going to get very accurate figures from a compass next to a metal dish.

For a rough guide to alignment (no need for compass etc) use this site
http://www.dishpointer.com/
Enter your postcode, change satellite on drop down menu to 28.2 E Astra 2, zoom in and drag green satellite icon to where it is positioned on your house. You should then see a green line indicating where the arm on your dish should be pointing and hopefully local objects to line up on - trees, edges of other buildings, fences etc.
Once roughly aligned see this site for further instructions (follow links for using Sky digibox)

Although intended for caravanners its advice and techniques apply to fixed installations as well.0 -
