although interesting i am always somewhat cynical of AV Test results, since they are actually funded by the anti virus company 'partners' with tests which are designed to give the "highest possible benefit for your company."

my personal feeling is that AV Comparatives is a much better one to go by as it is funded by the Australian government and so should have no particular biased.

This being said the AV comparatives site did show that Norton does have a pretty good detection rate – however it also shows that Avast has the higher detection rate than Norton, Avast being 99.3% and Norton being 98.7%

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

I wouldnt trust PC World for anything

  • Don't think I'd ever pay a yearly subscription for protection. I've always used free anti virus/spyware/prevention etc suites and been fine. Tech support alert (formerly 46 freeware utilities) is great for info in this area.

It's PC World the magazine not PC World the extended warranty and new motherboard sellers. Then again maybe you don't trust them either....

Read another PC magazines review and you will have different rankings .
I require consistent LONG TERM Advanced + ratings from AV-Comparatives before using or recommending any AV product .

No free product has ever reached this level , many many years ago it was Norton /Symantec at the top of the tree but for the last Five Years its been Esets Nod 32 or Kaspersky .

My Opinion based upon last 2years AV comparatives testing extra allowance made for later tests over older tests .
    Ranks top down

    50 Nod 32
    40 Kaspersky
    35 Bit Defender
    35 FSecure
    35 GData

    30 AVIRA premium
    30 EScan
    25 Norton
    20 Avast free
    20 PC Tools Spy Doc
    15 Microsoft Security Essentials .

Avast PC Tools and MSE are relatively new products or products with significant recent changes the relatively few Advanced + ratings they gather are due to being a new product rather than a poor product ,

  • i havent looked at that link but guessing thats its PCworld I can predict that norton is going to be at the top. Which is why when you walk in PC world you are confronted with a wall of yellow tat.

eset nod32 all the way i used to use kaspersky but it seems to have gone downhill since it became more mainstream.

apologises for not reading that it is in fact the magazine not the shop i think they may be related tho
