Can a 4m carpet fit a 4m room?

Looking at some measurements of rooms and some are very much borderline.

So if a room was say 4m x 4m, could i buy a 4m length and this would fit? As i know carpet fitters stretch it, or do you get a bit extra when you order? or do they give you exactly 4m?

If so, how much over could i go at a push, 4m 05? before having to purchase a longer length.

You need to allow for doorways (slightly bigger than the room), allowed around 25mm extra on all sides.
If in doubt allow extra, tell them that is your exact measurement or have them come and measure your room for you.

I was thinking of getting a roll end, it would be wide enough it would be on the length where there are no doorways...

If it's exactly 4 metres I doubt a fitter would be willing to risk fitting it.

They will want an overlap as otherwise your wall will need to be absolutely square, as a few mm out and the carpet will be short at one end. You'll do well to find 4 walls that are absolutely square!!

I had a room measured recently that left a very small amount of play on a 4m roll and ended up going for a 5 metre roll. He didn't want to risk it and wasn't comfortable doing it and it would have been at my risk.

    Find a 5m roll end.

Cheers, wouldn't think the room is exactly square. Have to remeasure again to be safe.
  • Are you measuring at floor or waist level?

Skirting boards might make the difference between it working and not.

A standard roll width (which is 4m) won't fit tbh if the room is exactly 4 m as the fitter has no margin for trimming.

Get the carpet fitters to measure you up ;o)))
  • You could always get some wider skirting board if necessary but measure it again at many places across the room and find the widest measurement. Check your skirting board width too while your doing it and see if the difference could be made up with some thicker skirting.

4 x 2s seem a little bit of an overkill for skirting board.

You can check how square the walls are by measuring the diagonals as well.
